Short Travel Stories - Learn English with Camille, Teeth Whitening in Albania

Teeth Whitening in Albania

We spent three months in Tirana, Albania, which was life changing. I had been having some tooth pain, which resulted in me needing to replace a crown, but I ended up in the right place. Dental work is extremely cheap in Albania if you compare it to the US. We actually met a lot of Italians there as well who would combine their holiday with dental work. While I was getting a new crown, I decided to try professional teeth whitening for the first time in my life. People always ask me if my teeth are real. Well of course they are. I don't whiten them on a regular basis, just this one time. It cost $100 dollars and only took about 20 minutes. It was done with a procedure called laser whitening, but they had to put these big trays in my mouth first. It was quite awkward, but beauty has a price, right? So once the trays were in, the hygienist came in and asked me if I was comfortable. “What?” I thought, “How could I be?” It struck me funny, so I started laughing. “No, no, you can't laugh,” she advised me. Of course, this made me want to laugh even harder. It is always harder to stop laughing once you have started and shouldn't be laughing, right?! After the whitening, I remember my front two teeth looking more see-through than before which caused me to slightly panic. Did I just mess up my teeth? It took a few weeks for the “see through look” to go away. I wouldn't do it again, because I feel like over time, it could actually ruin my teeth. But I will say that it is definitely a memory I look back and still laugh about.
