我 的 爸爸 从 很 年轻 的 时候 就 开始 吸烟 喝酒 。
My dad has been smoking and drinking since he was very young.
年轻 的 时候 他 工作 很 忙 , 所以 常常 吸烟 来 减轻 压力 *。
When he was young, he was very busy with work, so he often smoked to reduce stress *.
他 说 吸烟 的 时候 他 能 思考 * 得 更好 , 可是 那 时候 烟 很 贵 , 所以 他 不得不 少吸 点儿 。
He said he could think better when smoking *, but at that time smoking was expensive, so he had to smoke less.
80 年代 以后 , 爸爸 的 工作 越做越 好 , 经济 * 条件 * 也 比 以前 好多 了 , 烟 对 他 来说 再也 不 象 以前 那么 贵 了 , 所以 他 就 开始 吸 很多 烟 。
After the 1980s, Dad's job was getting better and better, and the economic * conditions * were much better than before. Cigarettes were no longer as expensive as before, so he started to smoke a lot.
而且 , 因为 他 的 工作 常常 需要 应酬 * , 他 喝 的 酒 也 比 以前 多 了 。
And, because his work often requires entertainment *, he drinks more alcohol than before.
烟 和 酒 对 人 的 身体 很 不好 , 到 了 90 年代 的 时候 , 我们 就 发现 爸爸 的 身体 越来越 不好 了 。
Tobacco and alcohol are bad for people's health. By the 1990s, we found out that Dad's health was getting worse and worse.
可是 , 大家 跟 他 说 过 很 多次 , 他 就是 不能 少吸 点儿 , 少 喝 点儿 。
However, everyone told him many times that he just couldn't drink less and drink less.
我 是 爸爸 最 喜欢 的 女儿 , 长大 以后 也 成 了 经常 和 他 聊天 的 朋友 , 所以 决定 要 和 爸爸 “ 谈判 ”, 劝 他 戒酒 戒烟 。
我 跟 爸爸 一起 常常 做 运动 , 帮 他 买 戒烟 糖 , 劝 他 少 喝酒 。

后来 , 爸爸 慢慢 地 不 喝酒 也 不吸 那么 多烟 了 。
