生命 的 意义 ， 我 到 现在 也 不见得 能够 确定 地 找到 。 I still haven't been able to find the meaning of life with certainty. 只是 感觉 到 为什么 每 一天 还 看到 这么 美的 花 在 开 ， 看到 月 缺 以后 又 月 圆 ， 看到 潮水 退 了 以后 又 涨起来 。 I just feel why I still see such beautiful flowers blooming every day, the moon is full after it wanes, and the tide rises after it recedes. 日复一日 的 自然 的 秩序 如同 24 节气 的 递变 ， 它 是不是 要 告诉 我们 什么 ？ The natural order day after day is like the gradual changes of the 24 solar terms. Does it tell us something?

我 住 在 淡水 河边 ， 我 的 窗台 看到 这条 河 ， 然后 学会 去 听 涨潮 的 声音 ， 学会 听 退潮 的 声音 。 I live by the Danshui River, I saw the river from my window sill, and then I learned to listen to the sound of the rising tide, and learned to listen to the sound of the ebbing tide. 涨潮 的 时候 万马奔腾 ， 可能 有 朋友 在 中秋节 去 钱塘潮 ， 那个 真是 震撼 ， 因为 他 整个 潮水 涌进来 的 时候 非常 澎湃 。 When the tide is high, thousands of horses are galloping. Maybe some friends go to Qiantang tide during the Mid-Autumn Festival. 可是 我 后来 慢慢 学会 听 退潮 ， 退潮 不 容易 发现 。 But I later learned to listen to ebb, which was not easy to find. 你 忽然 听到 沙滩 上 有 一种 沙沙 的 声音 ， 非常 低微 的 声音 ， 它 是 在 退潮 。 You suddenly hear a rustling sound on the beach, a very low sound, it's the ebbing tide. 退潮 跟 涨潮 非常 不 一样 ， 我 不 知道 会 不会 有点像 生命 里 的 汹涌澎湃 的 激情 跟 那种 低微 的 好像 有时候 觉得 进入 到 中 晚年 以后 自己 的 某 一种 声音 。 Low tide is very different from high tide. I don't know if it will be a bit like the surging passion in life and the low voice that sometimes seems to be one of my own voice after entering middle age.

我 年轻 时候 跟 朋友 招认 说 ， 我 大概 从来没 喜欢 过 杜甫 ， 也 没 喜欢 过 王维 。 When I was young, I confessed to my friends that I probably never liked Du Fu or Wang Wei. 因为 那 时候 读 李白 太 过瘾 。 Because reading Li Bai was too enjoyable at that time. 然后 到 现在 我 都 跟 年轻 的 朋友 说 ， 你 年轻 的 时候 没有 疯狂 的 爱 一次 李白 ， 你 就 真的 是 白活 。 Then up to now I have told my young friends that when you were young, you did not love Li Bai crazy, and you really did nothing. 可是 杜甫 会 等 在 你 的 50 岁 ， 等 着 你 跟 他 道歉 。 But Du Fu will wait for you at the age of 50, waiting for you to apologize to him. 然后 读到 他 的 三吏 三别 ， 读到 他 描述 的 战乱 里面 人 的 那种 哀伤 ， 描述 的 朱门酒肉臭 ， 路有冻死骨 ， 然后 你 会 跟 他 抱歉 ， 我 年轻 时候 真是 无知 ， 看不懂 杜甫 。 Then read his three farewells to three officials, read the sadness of the people in the war he described, the description of the rich wine and meat, and the frozen bones on the road, and then you will apologize to him, I was really ignorant when I was young, I can’t see Know Du Fu. 因为 年轻 时候 觉得 他 好 罗嗦 ， 老 在 那边 讲 这个 人 没饭 吃 ， 那个 人 小孩 没 奶粉 钱 。 Because when I was young, I thought he was very wordy, and I always said that this person has no food, and that person has no money for milk powder. 然后 到 我 现在 这个 年龄 ， 我会 跟 另外 一个 人 道歉 ， 就是 王维 。 Then at my current age, I will apologize to another person, that is Wang Wei. 年轻 的 时候 觉得 他 怎么 会 这么 自私 ， 他 竟然 说 晚年 为 耗尽 ， 万事 不 关心 。 When I was young, I thought how could he be so selfish, but he actually said that in his later years, he was exhausted and didn't care about everything.

我 觉得 这个 人好 自私 ， 怎么 会 万事 不 关心 。 I think this person is so selfish, how can he not care about everything. 可是 我 现在 竟然 好久 没有 打开 电视 ， 好像 自己 已经 觉得 真的 万事 不 关心 ， 因为 不 知道 怎么样 关心 。 But now I haven't turned on the TV for a long time, as if I already feel that I really don't care about everything, because I don't know how to care. 忽然 感觉 到 每 一次 的 关心 都 搅 在 一个 荒谬 的 闹剧 当中 。 Suddenly, I felt that every concern was involved in an absurd farce. 这 几年 ， 台湾 打开 电视 ， 每个 人 都 说 妈祖 在 给 他 托梦 。 In the past few years, when Taiwan turned on the TV, everyone said that Mazu was giving him dreams. 我 觉得 好 荒谬 ， 生命 的 荒谬性 。 I find it ridiculous, the absurdity of life. 所以 我 想 这些 部分 也许 是 今天 我们 在 谈 说 ， 我们 还是 要 绕 回来 问 一个 核心 的 问题 ， 生命 里面 美 这个 词 究竟 扮演 什么 角色 ？ So I think these parts may be what we are talking about today, we still have to go back and ask a core question, what role does the word beauty play in life? 我 今天 也许 不谈 很 有 野心 的 音乐 、 伟大 的 音乐 、 伟大 的 绘画 、 伟大 的 文学 ， 而是 说 回到 大自然 里面 ， 其实 无所不在 都 是 美 。 Today I may not talk about ambitious music, great music, great paintings, and great literature, but to return to nature, in fact, beauty is everywhere.

庄子 讲 的 美 常常 是 大自然 里 的 美 。 The beauty Zhuangzi talks about is often the beauty in nature. 他 说 天地 有大美 而 不言 。 He said that there is great beauty in the world without saying anything. 如果 今天下午 ， 谷雨 的 下午 你 走 出去 ， 你 会 看到 在 阳光 里面 所有 的 叶子 的 绿色 ， 你 会 听到 各种 空气 当中 的 气味 、 声音 你 都 会 感觉得到 。 If you go out this afternoon, in the rainy afternoon, you will see the green leaves of all the leaves in the sunlight, you will hear all kinds of smells and sounds in the air, and you will feel it. 庄子 认为 好像 不 需要 特别 去 音乐厅 ， 也 不见得 一定 要 去 画廊 ， 而是 说 天地 有大美 ， 而 这个 美是 不 讲话 的 ， 而 这个 大 美的 大 这个 词 ， 我 觉得 有 一种 特别 大 的 东方 的 包容 ， 包容 是 说 美 是 不 能够 排名 的 ， 我们 习惯 在 美 当中 排名 ， 这 是 美 ， 这是 第二名 的 美 ， 第三名 的 美 。 Zhuangzi thinks that there is no need to go to the concert hall, and it is not necessarily necessary to go to the gallery. Instead, he said that there is great beauty in the world, and this beauty cannot be talked about. The word "big" in this great beauty, I think, has a particularly big oriental Tolerance means that beauty cannot be ranked. We are used to ranking among beauties, this is beauty, this is the second beauty, and the third beauty.

我 现在 也 理解 庄子 的 意思 。 I now also understand what Zhuangzi meant. 有 朋友 问 我 说 ， 你 喜欢 什么样 的 花 ？ A friend asked me, what kind of flowers do you like? 牡丹 还是 百合 ？ Peony or Lily? 我 就 吓死 了 。 I was scared to death. 因为 我 只要 说 其中 的 一个 ， 我 就 觉得 对不起 其他 的 所有 的 花 。 Because I only need to say one of them, I feel sorry for all the other flowers. 因为 牡丹 美 ， 百合 不美 吗 ？ Because the peony is beautiful, isn't the lily beautiful? 百合 美 ， 茉莉 不美 吗 ？ Lily is beautiful, isn't Jasmine beautiful? 甚至 小小的 一点 雏菊 ， 一个 野草 的话 ， 我 都 不敢 说 它 不美 。 Even a little daisy, a weed, I dare not say it is not beautiful. 我 想 那个 是 庄子 要 讲 的 ， 天地 有大 美的 本意 是 说 每 一个 存在 的 生命 ， 他 的 不 可以 忽略 的 一种 尊严 ， 一种 庄严 。 I think that's what Zhuangzi wants to talk about. The original intention of "the beauty of heaven and earth" is to say that every existing life has a kind of dignity and dignity that cannot be ignored.

That thing is called beauty. 即使 一个 最 卑微 的 生命 。 Even the humblest life. 因此 我想 美是 一个 信仰 。 So I think beauty is a belief. 如同 蔡元培 一直 在 强调 说 ， 中国 是 没有 宗教 的 ， 没有 本土 宗教 的 ， 它 的 宗教 是 外来 的 。 As Cai Yuanpei has always emphasized, China has no religion, no native religion, and its religion is foreign. 可是 他 的 信仰 就是 美 。 But his belief is beauty. 他 把 美 作为 他 生命 里面 ， 民族 的 一个 重要 的 信仰 。 He regards beauty as an important belief of the nation in his life. 所以 他 曾经 提出 现在 还 被 大家 传颂 的 一句 话 ， 美育 代替 宗教 。 So he once put forward a sentence that is still being praised by everyone, aesthetic education replaces religion. 因为 美 本身 是 一个 信仰 。 Because beauty itself is a belief. 而美 本身 的 信仰 跟 把 一个 神奉 为 唯一 的 崇拜 的 神 不 一样 ， 而 说 天地 有大美 。 The belief in beauty itself is not the same as worshiping a god as the only god to worship, but saying that there is great beauty in the world. 尊重 每 一个 存在 的 生命 的 状态 。 Respect the state of every living being that exists. 因为 我 不 了解 它 存在 的 状态 。 Because I don't understand the state in which it exists.

我 想 佛经 有 一部 法华 经 ， 里面 有过 一个 比较简单 容易 懂 的 故事 。 I think there is a Lotus Sutra in the Buddhist scriptures, which contains a relatively simple and easy-to-understand story. 一般 人 认为 法华 经是 释迦摩尼佛 在 晚年 讲 的 一部 经 ， 因为 他 想要 给 贩夫走卒 讲经 。 Most people think that the Lotus Sutra is a sutra taught by Shakyamuni Buddha in his later years, because he wanted to teach the sutras to traffickers and pawns. 贩夫走卒 ， 你 要 讲 金刚经 很难 ， 因为 金刚经 里面 很多 的 哲理 。 Peddlers, it is very difficult for you to explain the Diamond Sutra, because there are many philosophies in the Diamond Sutra. 大众 他 要 听 的 是 比较 浅显 ， 容易 懂 的 故事 ， 所以 他 讲 了 一部 法华 。 What the public wants to hear is relatively simple and easy-to-understand stories, so he told a Fahua. 法华 里面 有 很多 的 故事 。 There are many stories in Fahua. 有 一个 很 简单 的 故事 ， 他 告诉 大众 说 你 看 ， 比如说 今天 是 谷雨 ， 你 是 一个 农民 ， 你种 了 稻谷 ， 你 当然 很 希望 雨落 在 你 的 田 里面 ， 因为 它 可以 滋润 你 的 稻田 ， 让 你 的 稻谷 长得 很 好 。 There is a very simple story, he told the public, look, for example, today is grain rain, you are a farmer, you plant rice, of course you really hope that the rain will fall in your field, because it can moisten your rice field, Let your rice grow well.

好 ， 讲完 以后 他 说 ， 你 有没有 发现 ？ Well, after he finished speaking, he said, have you noticed? 这个 雨 不止 落 在 你 的 稻谷 上 ， 也 落 在 你 很 不 喜欢 的 杂草 上 。 This rain falls not only on your rice, but also on the weeds you don't like very much. 杂草 也 在 生产 。 Weeds are also in production. 我 不 知道 大家 可不可以 了解 东方 的 哲学 里面 ， 不管 庄子 或 佛学 里面 ， 它 的 包容 天地 有大美 是 说 ， 我们 常常 因为 作为 一个 人 的 立场 ， 会 说 什么 对 我 好 ， 什么 对 我 不好 。 I don't know if you can understand that in Eastern philosophy, no matter in Zhuangzi or Buddhism, its inclusive world has great beauty. It means that we often say what is good for me and what is not good for me because of our position as a person. 可是 一个 真正 的 天地 有大美 ， 是 关切 到 我 甚至 不是 用 我 自己 的 人 的 角度 ， 而是 从 生命 的 角度 来看 。 But a real world has great beauty, which concerns me not even from the perspective of my own person, but from the perspective of life. 广大 的 宇宙 当中 每 一个 生命 存 的 意义 跟 价值 往往 是 我们 不 容易 了解 的 。 The meaning and value of every life in the vast universe is often not easy for us to understand.

可是 他们 这么 努力 在 生存 。 But they work so hard to survive. 这样 的 一个 谷雨 的 季节 ， 有 多少 的 植物 努力 想要 得到 上天 给 它 的 滋润 。 In such a season of Grain Rain, how many plants are trying to get the moisture that God gives them. 这时候 我 想到 了 年轻 时候 读 不 懂 的 杜甫 。 At this time, I thought of Du Fu, who I couldn't read when I was young. 杜甫 写 春天 写 到 一个 很 动人 的 句子 ， 叫做 欣欣 物 自私 。 Du Fu wrote a very moving sentence when he wrote Spring, which is called "Xinxin is selfish". 欣欣向荣 的 欣欣 ， 万物 的 物 ， 自私 ， 我们 常常 骂人 说 你 很 自私 的 自私 。 Thriving thriving, the thing of all things, selfish, we often call people that you are very selfish selfish. 我 第一次 看到 自私 变成 这么 好 的 意思 。 It's the first time I've seen selfishness become so well-meaning. 他 说 春天 来 的 时候 你 去 观察 ， 万物 欣欣向荣 ， 每 一个 生命 都 要 完成 他 自己 ， 那个 叫 自私 。 He said that when spring comes, you should observe, everything is thriving, every life has to fulfill itself, that is called selfishness. 我 觉得 好 了不起 。 I feel great. 因为 我们 平常 讲 自私 这个 字 都 是 负面 的 。 Because we usually use the word selfish in a negative way. 可是 一个 伟大 的 诗人 告诉 你 说 ， 每 一个 生命 努力 的 完成 他 自己 的 存活 ， 是 多么 动人 的 一个 力量 ， 所以 他用 了 欣欣 物 自私 。 But a great poet told you that every life strives to complete his own survival, what a moving force, so he used the selfishness of things.

我 想 幸好 有 这些 美好 的 句子 陪伴着 你 ， 在 成长 的 过程 里面 也 不断 的 在 休息 在 学习 ， 那么 知道 自己 还有 这么 多 的 东西 ， 慢慢 要 去 认识 。 I think it is fortunate to have these beautiful sentences to accompany you, and you are constantly resting and learning in the process of growing up, so you know that you still have so many things, and you need to get to know them slowly. 我 刚刚 讲 说 50 岁 的 时候 跟 杜甫 道歉 ，70 岁 时候 跟 王维 道歉 ， 是 多么 快乐 的 一件 事 。 I just said how happy it was to apologize to Du Fu when I was 50, and to apologize to Wang Wei when I was 70. 因为 生命 本来 就是 很长 很长 的 一条 路 ， 而 在 这 一条 路 当中 ， 你 不 知道 你 自己 峰回路转 ， 你 要 遇到 什么样 的 事 ？ Because life is a long, long road, and on this road, you don't know what kind of things you will encounter when you turn around?
