Drinking Tea
我 爸爸 係 一 個 廚師 —— 準確 啲 講 ， 係 點心 師傅 。
My father was a chef - a dim sum chef, to be exact.
我哋 一 家 住 公屋 ， 佢 就 係 喺 屋邨 商場 入面 嗰 間 酒樓 返工 ， 我 未 出世 佢 已經 喺 嗰度 做 ， 到 而家 計計埋埋 都 有 廿 幾 年 囉 。
We live in a public housing estate and she has been working in the restaurant at the entrance to the shopping mall of the estate for more than 20 years before I was born.
小學 嗰陣 我 讀 上午校 ， 媽媽 成日 帶 我 放學 去 酒樓 飲 下午茶 ， 順便 探 爸爸 班 ， 去 到 連 酒樓 經理 都 認得 我哋 一 家 （ 佢 仲 好 鍾意 請 我 食 糖 添 ） 。
When I was in elementary school, my mother took me to a restaurant for afternoon tea after school to visit my father's class. Even the manager of the restaurant recognized us (he liked to ask me to have a candy bar).
不過 兩三點 始終 係 酒樓 嘅 黃金 時段 ， 有 好多 人 幫襯 ， 所以 爸爸 多數 都 係 喺 廚房 忙 到 踢 晒 腳 ， 唔會 次次 得閒 出嚟 見 我哋 ， 而 我哋 都 習慣 晒 。
But 2 or 3 o'clock is the prime time for restaurants, and there are so many people to help, so Dad is usually too busy in the kitchen to come out to see us, and we are used to it.
通常 媽媽 會 帶 我 坐 埋 一 邊 嘅 卡位 ， 然後 問 我 想 食 啲 咩 點心 。
Usually, my mom would take me to sit in a booth on one side of the table and ask me what kind of snacks I would like to have.
嘩 ， 我 想 食 嘅 嘢 就 多 喇 ： 燒賣 啦 、 蝦餃 啦 、 腸粉 啦 ， 牛肉球 啦 —— 呢啲 係 例牌 要 嗌 嘅 —— 之後 再 加 一 籠 奶黃包 或者 叉燒包 ； 朝早 上 完 體育堂 嘅話 ， 仲 會 要 多 個 珍珠雞 添 ！
There are so many things I want to eat: barbecued pork, shrimp dumplings, rice noodle soup, beef balls - the usual quarrelsome stuff - and then I want to add a dumpling or barbecued pork bun, and if I finish the gymnasium in the morning, I want to add a chicken with pearl!
「 叫 咁 多 ， 你 食 唔 食 得 晒 㗎 ？ 」
"So many orders, can you afford it? This is a good idea.
「 係 爸爸 整 嘅 就 食 得 晒 ！ 」
"If you're with your dad, you'll eat well. "¡Ó
講 係 噉 講 ， 一 個 細路女 食 得 幾多 ， 所以 我 差唔多 次次 都 食 剩 ， 跟住 就 會 俾 媽媽 話 我 「 嘥嘢 」 、 「 爸爸 整 點心 好 辛苦 」 、 「 要 珍惜 食物 」 …… 最後 佢 一定 會 同 經理 講 ： 「 唔好意思 呀 ， 又 要 打包 喇 ！ 」
Speaking of which, a little girl can't eat much, so I almost always have leftovers, and then my mom would tell me to "make a lot of waste", "Dad is doing a great job", and "be careful with food". ...... In the end, she would always tell her manager, "I don't want to do that, I have to pack it up again"! I'm going to pack it again!
中學 之後 我 就 好 少 陪 媽媽 去 爸爸 嗰度 飲茶 喇 。
After high school, I seldom accompanied my mother to Dad's place for tea.
直到 大學 搬 咗 入 宿舍 ， 識 咗 班 新 朋友 ， 至 意外 發現 原來 大家 都 好 鍾意 飲茶 —— 次次 大家 落堂 諗 唔 到 去 邊度 食 ， 就 一定 會 有人 提議 ： 「 去 酒樓 飲茶 啦 ！ 」
It was not until I moved into a dormitory in university and made new friends that I unexpectedly realized that everyone liked to drink tea - the next time we were in the dining room and wondering where to go, someone would invariably suggest, "Let's go to a restaurant! I'd like to go to a restaurant."
我 一直 覺得 一 大 班 廿 零 歲 嘅 後生仔 去 飲茶 係 一 件 好 神奇 嘅 事 ： 明明 爸爸 嗰度 淨係 得 一 大 班 阿伯 阿婆 幫襯 ！
I always thought it was amazing that a group of twenty-year-olds went to have tea: obviously, Dad had to have the help of a group of old men and women there!
大學 酒樓 嘅 餐牌 豐富 過 啲 屋邨 酒樓 嘅 好多 （ 當然 價錢 都 高 好多 ） ， 粥粉麵飯 嘅 選擇 都 有 唔少 ， 仲 有 啲 我 細個 冇 食 過 嘅 點心 ， 尤其 係 桂花糕 同 咖啡糕 呢 類 嘅 甜品 。
The menu of the University Restaurant is much richer than that of the restaurants in other housing estates (of course, the price is much higher), and there are many choices of congee, noodles and rice, as well as desserts which I have never had before, especially the osmanthus cake and the coffee cake.
人 大 咗 之後 ， 我 嘅 胃口 反而 細 咗 。
As I got bigger, my appetite got smaller.
而家 我 飲茶 通常 只 會 嗌 一兩 籠 燒賣 ， 然後 陪 大家 食 下 炒飯 。
At home, when I have tea, I usually just quarrel about a couple of roasted dumplings and then eat fried rice with everyone.
另外 一 個 轉變 係 ， 我 而家 真係 好 鍾意 「 飲茶 」 ， 特別 係 普洱茶 ， 嗰 陣 苦味 細個 唔 識 欣賞 ， 大個 就 覺得 別有 一 番 風味 ……
Another change is that I really like "drinking tea", especially Pu-erh tea, the bitter taste is not appreciated by the small ones, but the big ones have a different flavor. ......
兩 個 月 前 我 嚟到 倫敦 ， 開始 我 嘅 留學 生活 。
Two months ago, I came to London to start my study abroad life.
老實講 ， 有時 都 會 幾 掛住 香港 ， 不過 好彩 我 識 到 幾 個 香港 同學 ， 可以 一齊 傾 下 偈 、 食 下 飯 ， 等 大家 唔使 咁 思鄉 。
Frankly speaking, sometimes I am a little bit obsessed with Hong Kong, but luckily I have found a few Hong Kong classmates, so that we can talk and eat together, so that we do not have to be so homesick.
我哋 有 幾 次 仲 試 過 約 埋 一齊 去 附近 嘅 港式 酒樓 飲茶 食 點心 添 ！
We have tried a few times to go to a Hong Kong restaurant in the neighborhood for dim sum!
不過 喺 英國 食 香港 嘢 ， 味道 真係 差 一 截 ， 有時 仲 有 陣 唔 新鮮 嘅 怪味 …… 去 過 咁 多 間 酒樓 ， 始終 都 係 爸爸 整 嘅 嘢 最 好食 ！
However, eating Hong Kong food in the UK is not as good as it should be, and sometimes it has a strange, unfresh taste. ...... I've been to so many restaurants, and Papa's food is always the best!
