曹沖 稱 象 Cao Chong weighs the elephant

從前 ， 有 一 位 丞相 ， 佢 叫做 曹操 。 Once upon a time, there was a prime minister called Cao Cao. 佢 有 幾 個 仔 ， 個個 都 好 有 成就 。 大仔 叫 曹丕 ， 後嚟 做 咗 皇帝 ； 又 有 一 個 細仔 ， 叫做 曹植 ， 係 著名 嘅 文學家 。 The eldest son was Cao Pi, who later became the emperor, and the youngest son was Cao Zhi, a famous literary scholar. 佢哋 嘅 故事 出名 到 人盡皆知 。 Their story is so famous that everyone knows about it. 但係 其實 曹操 仲 有 一 個 細仔 ， 大家 又 知 唔 知 呢 ？ But in fact, Cao Cao also had a little boy, do you know that?

曹操 呢 個 細仔 ， 叫做 曹沖 ， 佢 自細 就 聰明 過 人 。 Cao Cao is a young man called Cao Chong, and he has been smart since he was a child. 佢 五六 歲 嗰陣 ， 已經 識得 諗 方法 解決 一啲 連 大人 都 解決 唔 到 嘅 難題 。 When she was 5 or 6 years old, she already knew how to think of ways to solve problems that even adults could not solve. 有 一 次 ， 有人 送 咗 一 隻 好 靚 嘅 山雞 畀 曹操 。 Once, someone gave Cao Cao a beautiful chicken. 呢 隻 山雞 啲 羽毛 好 靚 ， 五顏六色 ， 曹操 想 睇 呢 隻 山雞 跳舞 ， 於是 係噉 逗 隻 山雞 ， 但係 隻 山雞 一直 都 唔 睬 佢 。 The feathers of this pheasant were so beautiful and colorful that Cao Cao wanted to see it dance, so he teased it, but the pheasant kept ignoring him.

呢個 時候 ， 細仔 曹沖 就 話 ： 「 好 簡單 啫 ， 等 我 嚟 啦 。 」 曹沖 放 咗 一 塊 銅鏡 喺 隻 山雞 面前 ， 山雞 見到 銅鏡 入面 有 隻 好 靚 嘅 山雞 。 山雞 為咗 同 佢 鬥 靚 ， 就 開始 跳舞 ， 點知 鏡 入面 嘅 山雞 跟住 一齊 跳 。 The chickens started to dance in order to make them look good, but the mirrored chickens danced along with them. 最尾 ， 山雞 跳 咗 好 耐 都 唔 停 ， 因為 佢 要 等 鏡 入面 嗰 隻 停 ， 佢 先 肯 停 。 At the end, the pheasant kept on dancing for a long time because it would only stop when the mirror was over there. 從此 ， 大家 都 覺得 曹沖 真係 一 位 神童 。 Since then, everyone thought that Cao Chong was really a child prodigy.

後嚟 ， 又 有人 送 咗 一 隻 大笨象 畀 曹操 。 曹操 佢哋 個個 都 冇 見 過 大笨象 ， 佢 見 淨係 象腿 都 已經 有 一 條 柱 咁 粗 ， 覺得 大笨象 真係 好 大隻 。 Cao Cao, none of them had ever seen a Dumbo before, and when he saw that the legs of the elephant were already as thick as a pillar, he thought that the Dumbo was really big. 佢 喺度 諗 ： 唔 知 呢 隻 大笨象 有 幾 重 呢 ？ He was thinking: "I wonder how much this elephant weighs? 於是 佢 就 問 大臣 ， 睇 下 有冇 方法 可以 量度 呢 隻 大笨象 嘅 重量 。 So he asked the Minister to see if there was any way to measure the weight of this big elephant.

有 一 位 大臣 話 ： 「 大笨象 又 大隻 又 重 ， 要 做 一 個 超級 巨型 嘅 稱 ， 先 可以 量 到 佢 嘅 重量 。 」 A minister said, "Dumbo is so big and heavy that we have to weigh him before we can make a super-giant one. The "Dumbo" is a big, heavy elephant, and we need to measure its weight first." 曹操 笑 住 答 ： 「 噉 個 稱 咪 仲 大 過 間 屋 ？ Cao Cao laughed and replied, "What's the name of this place? 邊 有 可能 做 到 呀 ？ 」

另 一 位 大臣 話 ： 「 大笨象 係 生 嘅 ， 就算 造 到 咁大 個 稱 ， 大笨象 都 未必 肯 乖乖 企 上去 。 Another minister said, "Dumbo is born, and even if it were to be built to such a large size, Dumbo might not be willing to go up there. 計 我 話 ， 殺咗 隻 大笨象 ， 切 開 一嚿嚿 ， 咁 就 量 到 幾 重 喇 。 」 If I say so, I've killed an elephant, and I've cut up a bunch of them, so I can measure how much they weigh. 大家 一致 否決 呢個 方法 —— 為咗 量 大笨象 嘅 重量 ， 就 要 殺 咗 佢 ， 噉 做 實在 太 唔 人道 喇 ！

呢個 時候 ， 有 個 細路 走 出嚟 ， 原來 係 曹沖 。 At that time, a small man came out, Cao Chong. 佢 話 ： 「 要 量 隻 大笨象 有 幾 重 ， 好 簡單 啫 ， 等 我 話 畀 你哋 知 點 做 啦 。

首先 準備 一 隻 木船 ， 放 隻 大 笨象 上去 。 大笨象 咁 重 ， 水位 一定 好 深 。 As heavy as it is, the water level must be very deep. 揾到 個 水位 之後 ， 再 派 人 喺 船上 刻 一 個 記號 。 」 When they have found a water level, they will send someone to carve a mark on the ship. The "mark" is a symbol of the ship's position in the sea.

呢個 時候 ， 好多 大臣 都 仲未 明白 曹沖 想 點 。 佢哋 問 ： 「 噉 之後 點 做 呀 ？ 」

曹沖 接住 講 ： 「 之後 就 拉 返 隻 大笨象 出嚟 ， 再 逐啲 逐啲 放 木頭 上去 ， 直到 隻 船 去 返 之前 嘅 水位 先 好 停 。 Cao Chong took over and said, "After that, we will pull the elephant out and put the logs onto the boat one by one until the boat reaches the water level where it can stop. 最後 攞 返 啲 木頭 出嚟 ， 分開 磅 下 幾 重 ， 加埋 咪 知 隻 大笨象 幾 重 囉 。 」 Finally, we will get the wood and weigh it separately, so we know how much the elephant weighs.
