كانَ لديها ابنٌ اسمهُ جاك.

كانَ جاكٌ كَسولاً للغايةِ

ولمْ يُساعدْ والدتَهُ بأعمالِ المنزلِ.

حتى أنَّهُ لمْ يعملْ لكسبِ بعضِ المالِ.

على الرَّغمِ مِنْ أنَّهُ كانَ ذكياً للغايةِ،

إلا أنَّهُ كانَ بلا فائدةٍ.

استيقظْ يا جاك! عليكَ الذهابُ إلى السوقِ وبيعُ البقرةِ الأخيرةِ لَدينَا.

لأنَّ جاكً لَمْ يُكنْ يَعملُ، فقدْ كانَ رِزقُهُمُ الوحيدُ بَيعَ جَميعِ الأبقارِ التي يَملكونَها بَعدَ وَفاةِ والدِهِ.

أنا آسفٌ أيتُهَا البقرةُ الحَلوبُ، ولكنْ علينَا أنْ نبيعَكِ. لَمْ يبقَ لدينا أيُّ شيءٍ للأكلِ.

في طريقِهِ إلى السوقِ، صادفَ امرأةً عجوزاً غريبةً.

في الصباحِ، نَظرَ الشابُ مِنَ النافذةِ ورأى نباتاً ينمو بِسرعة.

كانتْ شجرةُ فاصولياءٍ عملاقةٌ تَرتفعُ إلى السماءِ.

آه... ما هذا؟

إنَّها شجرةُ الفاصولياءِ!

أعتقدُ أنَّ المرأةَ العجوزَ كانتْ تَقولُ الحقيقةَ.

كانَ زوجُ المرأةِ العملاقةِ عِملاقاً مُخيفاً.

اهتزتِ الأرضُ عندما سارَ.

اختبأَ جاكٌ في الفرنِ على الفورِ.

عندما لَمْ يستطعِ العملاقُ العثورَ على جاكٍ، جلسَ إلى المائدةِ لتناولِ العشاءِ.

بمجردِ انتهائِهِ، ذهبَ إلى غرفتِهِ لأخذِ غَفوة.

ظَلَّ يقولُ "أنا أعُدُّ و أعُدُّ ، وما زِلتُ لَمْ أنتهي".

أدركَ جاكٌ أنَّ العملاقَ قدْ غادرَ.

عندما كانَ على وَشَكِ المُغادرةِ،

لاحظَ حَقيبةً مَليئةً بالذهبِ على الطاولةِ.

وَضعتْها زَوجتُهُ على الطاولةِ.

آمركُ أنْ تضعي بيضةً ذهبيةً!

كانتِ الدجاجةُ تَضعُ بيضةً ذهبيةً في كُلِّ مَرةٍ،

ثُمَّ يَضعُها العملاقُ في سلةٍ

بِمُجردِ أنْ ذهبَ العملاقُ إلى غرفتِه،

أمسك جاكٌ الدجاجةَ وانزلقَ عبرَ شجرةِ الفاصولياءِ إلى المنزلِ.

بمرورِ الوقتِ، أصبحَ جاكٌ ووالدتُهُ أثرياءَ للغايةِ،

لكنَّ جاكً لَمْ يزلْ لا يَرغبُ بالعملِ.

ما زالَ لا يستطيعُ التوقفَ عنِ التفكيرِ في المكانِ الذي يعيشُ فيه العملاقُ. كانَ مُهتماً بالذهبِ.

سأذهبُ مرةً أخرى، لكنَّ هذهِ المرةِ عليَّ أنْ أكونَ أكثرَ حَذَراً.

صعدَ شجرةَ الفاصولياءِ ودخلَ المنزلَ دونَ أنْ تُلاحظَ زوجةُ العملاقِ.

اختبأَ في الفرنِ مرةً أخرى، ولكنْ بِمُجردِ دخولِ العملاقِ المنزل...

. مِنْ أينَ تأتي رائحةُ الأطفالِ؟ أكرهُ هذهِ الرائحة!

قالتْ زوجةُ العملاقِ التي لَمْ ترَ جاك ...

بدأتِ القيثارةُ التي كانتْ على الطاولةِ تعزفُ موسيقى جميلةً لدرجةِ أنَّ العملاقَ غَطَّ في النومِ.

رأى جاكٌ العملاقَ نائماً، أمسكَ القيثارةَ وبدأَ يركضُ.

لكنَّ القيثارةَ السحريةَ بدأتْ في الصُّراخ.

النجدة! سالنجدة! أنا أُخْتَطَفُ!

سَمِعَ العملاقُ صيحاتِ القيثارةِ واستيقظَ على الفورِ.

ركضَ لإمساكِ جاك. كانَ جاكٌ خائفاً جداً.

إِذَاً أنتَ الذي سرقَ ذهبي و دجاجتي. سأقبضُ عليكَ وأسجنُكَ مدى الحياة!

كانَ العملاقُ غاضباً لأنهُ لَمْ يتمكنْ مِنَ الانزلاقِ بسببِ جسدِهِ الضَخمِ.

حالما وَصلَ جاكٌ إلى حديقتِهِ، قامَ بقطعِ شجرةِ الفاصولياءِ ، طارتْ بعيداً مَعَ العملاقِ.

تَحررَ جاكٌ الآنَ مِنَ العملاق.

كانَ يتساءلُ عنِ المكانِ الذي عاشَ فيهِ العملاقُ لكنَّهُ لَمْ يَعُدْ قَادراً على الذهابِ إلى هُناك مرةً أخرى لأنهُ بالكادِ نجی.

ركضَ مباشرةً إلى والدتِهِ.

ما فعلتُهُ ليسَ صحيحاً يا أُمي.

لقدْ حذرتِنِي، لكنَنِي لَمْ أستمعْ إليكِ.

منَ الآنَ فصاعداً، لنْ آخُذَ ممتلكاتِ أيِّ شخصٍ دونَ أنْ أطلبَهَا أولاً.

لقدْ تعلمتُ الدرسَ.
