To say that you’ve “done something before,” use the 过 particle.

我看过他，但是我记不得他的名字

I’ve seen him before, but I can’t remember his name.

你看过这本书吗？看过．

Have you read this book before? Yes, I have.

To express that you haven’t done such a thing, use 没有．

老师没有忘过我的名字

The teacher has never forgotten my name.
