Mir ging's richtig scheiße. Ich hatte richtig Kopfschmerzen. I felt really crap. I had a proper headache.

Ver...was? Verkatert? - Ja. - Äh wie sagt man das auf Deutsch? What? Hungover? - Yeah.

- Err, how do you say it in German?

Also nein ich bin nicht verkatert, nein. Well, no, I'm not hungover, no. Bist du heute verkatert? - Ähm, so'n bisschen. Are you hungover today? - Erm, a bit.

Nein, absolut nicht. - Ich auch nicht, zum Glück nicht. No, absolutely not. - I'm not either, luckily (I'm) not.

Wir waren, wir waren wirklich äh – Super fresh. we were, we were really erm - Super fresh.

ja, wir waren zu Hause und haben… waren sehr artig. Also nein. yeah, we were at home and... were very good. So no.

Und wie gehst du mit einem Kater um? And how do you deal with a hangover?

Schlafen, viel Wasser trinken, ansonsten kann man nicht viel machen. Sleep, drink lots of water, otherwise you can't do much.

Viel Wasser – einfach aufstehen, Freunde treffen – duschen Lots of water - just get up, meet friends - shower

und zusammen leiden. – Ja.– Duschen und spazieren. and suffer together. - Yeah.

Mit Freunden zusammen leiden.– Nicht alleine sein, nicht alleine sein. Suffer together with friends. - Don't be alone, don't be alone.

Ich versuch ihn zu bekämpfen, indem ich sehr viel frische Luft I try to fight it by enjoying lots of fresh air,

genieße, das ist äh auf jeden Fall wichtig, mich 'n bisschen that's erm, definitely important, I move

bewege und jetzt gleich erstmal 'nen Kaffee und dann, a bit and firstly drink a coffee and then,

dann wird es schon. then it's OK.

Ja, ignorieren, was soll ich tun? Selber verbockt. Yeah, ignore (it), what should I do? Messed it up myself.

Und wie gehst du um mit den postalkoholischen Depressionen? And how do you deal with the post-alcohol depression?

Ahahaha, viel essen... und, und frische Luft, genau. Ahahaha, eat a lot... and, and fresh air, yeah.

Ein Kater ist immer berechtigt. - Ja. A hangover is always justified. - Yeah.

Kater muss man auch haben, sonst macht man das zu oft. You need to have a hangover, too, otherwise you'll do it too often.

Also sonst geht man halt auch dran kaputt. I mean, otherwise you'll just break because of it.

Man muss ja irgendwie auch mal sehen, dass es immerhin noch Gift ist, You somehow need to see that it's still poison

Ähm mein bester Tipp für den Kater ist spazieren gehen und duschen. Erm, my best tip for a hangover is going for a walk and showering.

Also ähm wenn ich 'n Kater hab', dann ähm schlafe ich lange aus, I mean, erm, when I have a hangover then, erm, I sleep in,

trink Wasser am nächsten Tag, versuche recht schnell drink water the next day, try to go to the toilet

auf's Klo zu gehen, was zu frühstücken really quickly, eat something for breakfast

und an die frische Luft zu kommen. - Kuscheln hilft, finde ich. and get into the fresh air. - Cuddling helps, I find.

Ähm erstmal gut ausschlafen und 'ne Pho-Suppe essen. Erm, firstly sleep in and eat a pho soup.

Oh ja, 'ne, 'ne würzige Pho-Suppe und ähm was auch immer hilft Oh yeah, a spicy pho soup and, erm, something that always helps too

ist Tomatensaft, bei mir - Echt? - Tomatensaft, ja, is tomato juice, for me - really? - tomato juice, yeah,

Tomatensaft mit Salz und Pfeffer. tomato juice with salt and pepper.

Wieviel ähm Alkohol trinken Leute in Deutschland? How much, erm, alcohol do people drink in Germany?

Zuviel wahrscheinlich, viel auf jeden Fall. Too much probably, definitely a lot.

Ich arbeite in 'ner Kneipe und da sind immer viele Menschen, I work in a pub and there are always lots of people there

die sehr viel Alko... Alkohol trinken, ja. who drink a lot of alco... alcohol, yeah.

Und welche Mengen von Alkohol sind noch sicher, And what amounts of alcohol are safe

um nicht am nächsten Tag verkatert und unglücklich aufzuwachen? in order to not wake up hungover and unhappy?

Das ist wirklich schwer zu sagen, weil ich glaub' die, It's really hard to say because I think the,

diese Mengen, die erreicht man nie. Das wär wahrscheinlich this amount, you never achieve it. It would probably be

so zwei Bier und dann ist vorbei, aber... wer macht das schon. something like two beers and then you're done, but... who does that?

Nach dem zweiten Bier kriegt man erstmal die Lust nach mehr. (It's) only after the second beer that you get the desire for more.

Ja und dann, dann fließt das Bier auch immer. Yeah and then, then the beer always flows.

Und das... so ist das einfa... einfach dann. And it... then it's easy.

Immer Wasser zwischendurch trinken. Always drink water in between (beers).

Ich werde so richtig wasserscheu dazwischen, so Aaaah. I get really against drinking water, like ""Aaaah"".

Kommt drauf an, was man erreichen will. Depends what you want to achieve.

Ja das hängt auch davon ab, welche Art von Alkohol. Yeah it also depends on which kind of alcohol.

Ähm, ich trink' gerne Bier und nur Bier, da bleib' ich bei Erm, I like to drink beer and (if I) just (drink) beer, I stick with

dem einen. Ähm, wenn dann noch mal Hartprozentiges dazukommt, one type. Erm, if I have higher percentage (alcohol) too

dann trink' ich weniger Bier und dann wird das Hartprozentige then I drink less beer and then I have a bit more

halt auch etwas mehr. - Ja ich... wenn's geht misch ich immer of the higher percentage (alcohol). - Yeah I... if possible I always

mal wieder ein Wasser zwischenrein. Also Bier, Wasser, Bier, Wasser. mix in a water now and then. So beer, water, beer, water.

Also bei mir merk' ich, wenn ich zum Beispiel mehr als Well, with me I notice if I've drunk more than

ein Liter Bier getrunken hab', merk' ich das nächsten Tag a litre of beer, for example, I notice it the next day

und dann kann ich nicht normal arbeiten. and then I can't work normally.

Joa, so nach dem dritten Glas Wein ist es nicht mehr gut Yeah, after the third glass of wine it's no longer good

der soziale Druck ist da. - Ja. the social pressure is there. - Yeah.

Wie benehmen sich die Deutschen, wenn sie betrunken sind? How do the Germans behave when they are drunk?

Na ist abhängig, vom Typ auch, vom Menschen. Well, it depends on the character too, on the person.

Manche sind total aufgedreht, total flippig, Some are completely hyper, completely crazy,

andere sind wieder ruhig, andere pennen ein. some are quiet, some fall asleep.

Je nachdem, ist ja abhängig vom Typ. Depending, it depends on the character.

Kommt auch drauf an wieviel Alkohol man trinkt, ne? Depends on how much alcohol you drink, right?

Ich kenn's auch... wir kommen aus dem Süden, I know it too... we come from the south,

ähm, wenn wir da das Oktoberfest haben, dann trinkt man dann erm, when we have Oktoberfest there then you drink

immer mal wieder und man, man hüpft, man singt, man tanzt, again and again and you, you jump, you sing, you dance,

man hat Spaß und dabei trinkt und dann trinkt man und trinkt man you have fun and you drink while you're having it, and then you drink and you drink

und hat gar nicht äh die Menge mehr im Kopf, and you can't remember the amount at all,

wieviel das eigentlich ist. Weil man normalerweise anderes, how much it actually is. Because you're normally...

äh andere Maßen gewohnt ist... - Ja das ist, das ist voll gefährlich. erm, used to different amounts... - Yeah that's, that's really dangerous.

Und welche Menge a(n) Alkohol an einem Abend ist gut? And which amount of alcohol is good in an evening?

Gar keinen. Am besten Weed, Gras. None at all. Ideally weed, grass.

Und welchen Alkohol ziehen die Deutschen vor? And which alcohol do Germans prefer?

Bier, ganz klar Bier. Bier ist das Beste. Beer, definitely beer. Beer is the best.

Es gibt hier halt eben nur Alkohol unglaublich günstig, There's just unbelievably cheap alcohol here,

das ist der Punkt. - Ja. - Ja. Gibt's in England zum Beispiel nicht, that's the point. - Yeah.

- Yeah, it doesn't exist in England, for example,

ein Bier für 30 Cent oder so. Das kostet drei Euro im Supermarkt, circa. a beer for 30 cent or something. It costs three euro in a supermarket, approximately.

Und hier wirklich 30 Cent, diese 0,5 (Biermarke). And here (it's) really 30 cent, this 0,5 (beer brand).

Für zwei Euro kann man sich 'n Rausch antrinken, das geht For two euro you can get drunk, it's possible,

oder drei von mir aus. - Ja. - Ja, das ist der Unterschied vielleicht, ja. or maybe three if you like. - Yeah.

- Yeah, that's the different maybe, yeah.

Ich acht' gar nicht so arg drauf wieviel ich trink'. I don't take much notice at all of how much I drink.

Also ich trink halt bis es mir schlecht geht und dann hör ich auf. I mean, I just drink until I don't feel well and then I stop.

Und ähm glaubst du, dass man in Deutschland zuviel Alkohol trinkt? And, erm, do you think that in Germany people drink too much alcohol?

Ja, auf jeden Fall. Auf jeden Fall. - Ja. Yeah, definitely. Definitely. - Yeah.

Hahaha... - Je nachdem wie besoffen man ist natürlich. Hahaha... - Depending on how drunk you are, of course.

ich glaub' es ist besser als in anderen Ländern, I think it's better than in other countries,

aber äh teilweise übertrieben, ja. but, erm, sometimes it's taken too far, yeah.

Ich komm' vom Dorf, da trinkt man auch vielleicht mal 'n bisschen mehr. I come from a village, people drink a little bit more there, maybe.

Ja, das ist so sozial verankert, dass man eigentlich gar nicht Yeah, it's so rooted socially that people actually

aufhören kann, weil sonst wird man als äh verdächtigt krank zu sein oder... can't stop at all, because otherwise you're suspected to be ill or...

Ja, ich hab' 'n Kumpel, der trinkt gar kein Alkohol und äh, Yeah, I have a friend who doesn't drink any alcohol at all and erm,

der wird regelmäßig auch von anderen angestiftet: ""Ach komm, he's regularly encouraged by others: ""Oh come on,

ein Bier, trink doch mal mit!"" Und er ist immer so: one beer, drink one with us!"" And he's always like:

""Nein, ich trink einfach gar nicht."" und die meisten Leute ""No, I just don't drink at all"" and most people

verstehn's einfach nicht. just don't understand it.

Sind Sie der Meinung, dass man... dass es in Deutschland auch so'n Do you think that... that in Germany there's also

sozialen Druck gibt zu trinken mit den Freunden? social pressure to drink with friends?

Ja, gibt's auf jeden Fall. Also das ist jetzt kein Druck, Yeah, there is, definitely. I mean, it isn't pressure,

das ist einfach gesellschaftlich so verankert, it's just so rooted in society,

denk ich mal schon, ja, bestimmt. I think think, yeah, definitely.

Ich hab' einen Freund, der trinkt alkoholfreies Bier I have a friend, he drinks alcohol-free beer

und ich beobachte oft, dass äh Leute sogar 'n bisschen sauer werden, and I often observe that, erm, people are even a bit annoyed,

so ""Ach komm schon."" Alle sind betrunken, alle reden durcheinander like ""Ahh come on."" Everybody is drunk, everybody is talking nonsense,

irgend'nen Quatsch und die Nicht-Betrunkenen stehen da some kind of rubbish, and the non-drinkers are standing there

wie bestellt und nicht abgeholt. all dressed up and with nowhere to go.

Das ist ein Problem in unserer Gesellschaft, ja. That's a problem in our society, yeah.

Na, also ... - Bleib zu Hause! - ich hab's auch schon erlebt, Yeah, so... - Stay at home! - I've experienced it before,

dann machen na ja... da haben die anderen die Atmosphäre then... the others ruined

kaputt gemacht. Wenn ich nichts trinken wollte und die ganze Zeit the atmosphere. If I didn't want to drink anything and was harassed

gestresst wurde so ""Trink doch, trink doch, trink doch"", the whole time, like ""Drink, drink, drink"",

das ist halt... weiß ich nicht, vielleicht 'n bisschen mehr it's just... I don't know, maybe you (should) pay attention

auf sich achten und nicht auf die anderen. to yourself a bit more and not to the others.

Ich bin total dabei. Ich hab' tatsächlich einen Freund, I completely agree. I actually have a friend

der ein alkoholisch, alkoholfreies Bier trinkt und ich beneide ihn. who drinks alcohol... alcohol-free beer and I envy him.

Es ist... ich möchte das auch, ich kriege das nicht fertig, It's... I'd like that too, I haven't managed to do that yet,
