The Future Canine: Robot Dogs Are Here To Stay
AI-based robotic pets that mimic human behavior are the future of creature comfort. For decades, scholars and innovators have been fascinated by the potential of robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.
AI-powered “social robots,” particularly robot dogs (or robo-dogs), are enthralling their owners their tech-savvy owners. Robo-dogs are quickly evolving to become more emotionally responsive and intelligent.
The Age of AIBO
Sony released AIBO (Artificial Intelligence Robot), one of the most iconic and innovative entertainment robotic dogs. Despite the fact that the AIBO was built for fun, its equipment is quite complicated. It can listen to spoken orders, shake hands, walk, and chase a ball thanks to its touch, hearing, sight, and balancing abilities.
It can also express happiness, sadness, fear, anger, hatred, and surprise, among other emotions. Tail wagging, eye color changes, body movements, as well as a series of sounds including barks, whines, and growls, reveal its emotional status.
Are Robot Dogs Worth the Hype?
While dogs are a man's best friend, could having a robodog be more beneficial? Robo-dogs can come in handy for owners who suffer from allergies. Also, since robo-dogs have AI-driven personalities, they may adapt to their owner's whims and routines, forming a personal emotional bond similar to that of a beloved pet. It's also likely that robo-dogs will require far less maintenance and health care than regular dogs.
Hmm… For now, at least, there's nothing that comes close to the real thing. Robo-dogs sure sound cool, but our furry four-legged friends have our hearts!
