The Running Channel, I Ran A Marathon In A Prison

I Ran A Marathon In A Prison

Now I've done some pretty crazy things in my time, including running 100 miles, crossing deserts and

jungles.

But nothing was as bad as the time I had to spend six hours at Her Majesty's pleasure in

Shepton Mallet prison.

However, today is not about me.

And as you can see, I come over to the good side.

Today is about James Dunn, who's also done some mental things in his time u TMB amongst them.

But now it would appear he has done something wrong, and today he'll be taking on the Green Mile.

I don't know what I've agreed to.

Yeah, mhm.

So when the running channel phoned me and said we'd like to do another race, I thought,

Great.

They're gonna send me something really exotic.

Really lovely.

Yeah.

And then they sent me here to shoot a man in prison to run a marathon inside this very

prison.

We were just talking about how we watch people lose that on these at the beginning.

There really, really up for it.

And then everyone goes quiet.

At what point do people come back to life?

Some come back to life.

Um, probably tend to go Jack in 10 laps to go.

They'll stop smiling again.

78 laps, 118 steps up and down

for less.

Why do you think people like doing these races?

I've got?

I've got an idea.

I think it's really good for your mental endurance.

Go around around around circles.

I'm not doing it.

I still think it's good to be, um we'll be able to give you some updates on where you're up

to, but don't ask me every lap because lots of currency where you're getting me to write

off.

But other than that, have fun.

Could I just say you look like a really cheap village People

video Just can't wait to get started now and see

what happens.

I'm terrified.

321.

And there you go.

Good luck.

Okay.

Alright.

Here we go.

Right.

Is that right?

Down 70 years ago

we are into the

exercise yard.

Oh, and now we're inside

first.

Wow of many.

Mhm.

Here we go.

Try not to fall down.

Today is not a good day to have size 12 ft.

So the stairs are all different lengths.

They are not all the same depth Is there the same depth They're easier to run down if they're different.

Because they're harder to run their which prevents riots.

After 50 laps, it becomes an iMac after 17.

It's borderline impossible.

Safe.

Just about to start that three.

I thought I'd take you with a full loop.

Sorry.

Official start.

Oh, God.

Oh, God.

There's gonna be a lot more of her.

Terrifying me during the race.

I haven't told her.

I'm very easily scared.

I didn't want to give her any more ammunition.

I'm in a place where people spent years of their lives.

People died here.

Okay, It's very unsettling.

Mhm,

Wadley.

It is quite easy to forget.

That's where you're actually running in the monotony of these loops, right?

I've got very confused right back in there.

I've almost done 20 28 laps.

Isn't the most amount of that I've ever done in a marathon most of you have ever done

is 4684

which I did around around my sofa

in lockdown?

Yeah, and I kind of using the same mentality of this race.

Try and switch your brain off and just keep going and going.

Yeah,

yeah.

Uh, quarter, but

okay, Mhm.

Oh, don't get up.

What have you on?

I have no idea.

You've no idea.

No idea.

Why aren't people counting their laps?

I don't even know my own name.

If you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't write.

I mean, it is quite hard.

I'm gonna be honest.

And you've got no idea when you're gonna finish.

Nobody was going to finish.

Definitely feeling the exhaustion, going up the stairs, having to use my arms to kind of

pull me up.

Very, very flammable nylon and the nipples out.

Ouch.

Mm.

James wanted to rest.

He wanted to lay down, isn't it?

He wanted to rest.

Get this out.

Yeah.

Mhm.

Okay.

He's going to stay in, uh, for one lap.

Wouldn't it be funny if and check on him or look, there's a guy dressed as a Roy.

No, thank you.

I know that's the sort of thing you might think you see in prison.

Hey, James is just run past me.

Everyone and I just said to him, Hey, man, how are you feeling?

And what did you say?

What did you say?

Really bad.

I want to sit down.

Hey, man, I'm not feeling too bad.

Okay, So this is what's gonna happen now.

This is the next thing is going to wear for me, running down here

in this makes me feel better.
