The Running Channel, How Do You Keep Your Heart Rate Low On A Run?

How Do You Keep Your Heart Rate Low On A Run?

Hello and welcome to the running channel monthly show for november brought to you by our

friends at wiggle and and I will be bringing you all the latest running news and you

contender on the treadmill challenge with Swift and we answer your

questions all about running including how do you keep your

heart rate low on a run?

And we'll also be running you through all of the latest product launches in november,

including some snazzy new earphones, new shoes to wear out on the trails

and a very good book recommendation plus stay tuned and keep your eyes

peeled throughout the show because we've got a chance for you to win vouchers to spend

at show sponsors.

Wiggle too.

Let's get stuck in

november feels

like the Chaka race calendar over the autumn is starting to slow down a bit but you guys have been

messaging us to let us know how you've been getting on in your races this month.

A huge, well done to you Ting Yau who ran the Lincoln 10-K with his best mate craig

and got a P.

B.

Big kudos to craig as well who apparently sacrificed his own time to push you through

the monsoon rain to motivate him to finish top friend

well done to to bree Lester on her first ever five K.

The Halloween mutt run.

She said, even though she didn't get the time she wanted, she still had fun and got to see

lots of dogs dressed up in costumes and his idea of heaven.

Absolutely and Julieta Andrea has had four years of racing but ran the

Houston 10-K and said it was so good to be back top work Giulietta.

So the big one this month was new york marathon, my absolute favorite marathon that

I've ever run.

There was a thrilling end to the men's races, Kenyan runner Albert Career, who

came in second place in the 2019 event, took the lead in the 20th mile

and held onto the finish.

He finished in two hours, eight minutes and 22 seconds, just 44 seconds

ahead of second place, Mohamed El Araby from Morocco who had established an early

lead alongside the italian e.

OB Faneuil in the women's race just three months after taking gold at the

Tokyo olympics.

Perez chap cheetah took the win in two hours, 22 minutes and 39

seconds.

Meanwhile, american athlete Shalane flanagan completed six marathons over the span of

six weeks, finishing in new york.

So over 42 days, she had set out to complete the world marathon majors.

The Tokyo Marathon, Berlin Marathon, London Chicago boston

and then finally the new york city marathon all in under three hours and she absolutely

smashed the target.

She ran Tokyo virtually because the in person event had to be postponed to next year because

of covid, the 40 year old four time Olympian retired from the sport two years ago

And had rehabbed from double knee surgeries in 2020.

So this really was an incredible achievement, superb stuff.

Another phenomenal achievement and new york marathon was that of Tommy rivers posey or

ribs as he's known almost a year ago to the day from race day, the runner who has

won or placed in big city marathons and other endurance events, learned

to sit up in bed again after battling a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer.

He spent 2.5 months in intensive care.

He documented his recovery on his instagram account and one year on the 37 year old

completed the marathon with people walking part of it with him and stopping him

to cheer him on to the finish.

Really, truly inspirational stuff really was.

And away from the elite side of things, just had to mention the unexpected star

of the race.

A duck.

Yeah.

Not only with their 30,000 runners running the five boroughs, but there was one with

very tiny little webbed feet and not only that Wrinkle the Duck even had little

custom made running shoes on to what,

it's not clear exactly how much of the marathon wrinkle completed

or her average pace, but I think we can all agree it's been a great big smile on our faces.

And finally the javelina 100 took place since we last caught up to

it's known as the original fancy dress, 100 mile trail run party.

And this year it was also a golden ticket event for entry to the Western States 100.

It's a 20 mile looped course that runners take on five times with

over 1500 ft of elevation on each lap.

Camille Herron was the women's winner, running 100 miles in an astonishing

14 hours three minutes and 23 seconds.

A new course record by almost 50 minutes she crossed the line,

brandishing a light saber.

Aryan Glick was the men's winner in a speedy 13 hours, 14 minutes

and 52 seconds.

Amazing stuff.

Where have you been racing this month?

Tell us in the comments and let us know what race you're currently training for Two.

We could give you a shoutout next month.

Next up, we've got all the running news for november in newsflash with Garmin

with we're starting this

month's news flash update with a big fat, happy birthday to Parker and South

Africa as it turned 10 years old this

month, Starting

from the very first event in Delta Park in Johannesburg, there are now more than

200 park runs in South Africa and up to 60,000

Park running paying attention.

Yes, taking part every week.

How cool is this as well?

NK Marcy Park run once had to delay its start because the route was blocked by a pride of

life and there's often giraffes as well as inflows Park want to.

That is pretty awesome, definitely one for the wish list.

I wonder if the running channel would send us this month.

Also saw a new world record set at the Beer mile World Classic event took place in

Manchester this year and saw the Canadian middle distance from a Corey

Bellmore shave five seconds off the previous best time, which he also held.

He completed four laps of the lee track and field stadium in four minutes 28

seconds downing a kind of beer after each of his laps.

Top work curry.

That's pretty cool and lastly guilty of obsessively checking the weather before race

day. Yes, yes, I know I am as well.

Well, scientists have been looking into what the exact perfect weather conditions are for

racing it.

The study, wait a second in medicine and science in sports and exercise applies

machine learning to a massive database of race results to see how much you can expect

to slow down by in adverse weather.

So they looked at results across all different race distances as early as 1936 we

pop the link to the study in the video description.

If you want to go into it in more depth, there's a lot, but the very top level results were

that air temperature wise, the ideal range is between 10 and 12

C.

The data is based on the elites, they run very, very fast and in general generate

more body heat because of that.

So therefore they may favor cooler temperatures as a result.

But if the weather conditions suggest a two hour marathoner will slow down by

two minutes is estimated that a three hour marathoner might slow down by

around three minutes.

Nice to know.

I'm backed up with science now it's time for the treadmill challenge with Swift this month.

It's the turn of Jerick Ewan Jared is pretty well known on the social media

circuit as the GPS art guy.

He draws incredible pictures with his running routes.

In fact, you might have seen him challenge us to Ostrava Art challenge on the

channel.

But how will he fare when it comes to swapping the streets for the treadmill and

how good is his running?

General knowledge?

Let's find out.

Mhm.

Let's do it.

Starting in 321.

1st question, what's the world record for running a half marathon

backwards to the nearest minute to the new diverse community?

Yeah, 59 minutes.

No two minutes.

Put this speed up.

Question # two.

A study once proved that wearing which colour clothing makes you

more likely to win as a runner?

Red color Yeah, correct.

Next one.

What is the fastest human foot speed on record in meters

per second?

100

speeder.

Oh no question number four, The winner

of the 1904 olympic marathon completed most of the course?

In what type of vehicle?

Uh huh.

I don't know.

I would just go up incorrect, but the speeder.

Next question, Who holds the male park run

world record?

Uhh Andy correct?

How many steps to runners have to climb in the great wall of

china marathon, wow,

80,000 9000.

Oh my God, that would be a lot.

Next question, What was Oprah Winfrey's marathon time at

Washington D.

C.

Marine corpse Marathon in 1994 to the nearest minute.

You're a minute.

Uhh Uh 200 minutes

incorrect.

This speed up.

Oh no.

Next question, what sporting venue does Amsterdam marathon

started?

I don't know, I don't do the speed up.

Well, next question, what is the Guinness world record for the

fastest half marathon dressed as a gingerbread person?

Uh now we're in 20 minutes pass replacement.

No, next, next, how long in

kilometers is the ultra trail du mont blanc?

Uhh you know, I'm gonna

jump but Oh oh

oh that was tough.

Oh.

Oh, slightly hungry too.

Uh huh.

Three minutes and eight seconds there for Derek, awesome stuff that puts him in a very

respectable eighth place on the leaderboard.

Nice one.

Jerick, we've still got loads more coming up, including your chance to win a voucher to

spend at show sponsor.

Wiggle. So don't go anywhere.

Next though, let's take a look at the running launches for november.

Okay.

Mhm.

Starting this month with the ear fund free Pro.

Two earbuds.

These little birds pack a pretty big punch.

They have both noise canceling and ambient noise settings.

The battery lasts for six hours and there's a further 24 hours charging

in the case.

Not only that, but you can get two hours of playback from just 10 minutes of quick

charging Sarah's been testing these out for the running channel this month and says she was really

impressed with them.

They felt secure in her ears and the sound quality is really clear.

So sticking with tech.

And this month sees the launch of the NURVV Connect IQ app, which lets you

control the nerves smart insoles from your Garmin watch and see the

metrics during your run is so cool.

At the moment, you can see NURVV metrics, including distance pays, time

cadence and calories.

You can't view data relating to pronation and foot strike for left

and right while running, but more are expected to be added soon.

The app appears as an activity type.

So it's a choice between Garmin's run or NURVV run.

If you select the NURVV option Garmin will still record its own entry in the background

onto shoes now and with winter just around the corner here in the northern hemisphere

and the muddy trails that come with it 361° have launched their newest

trail shoes, the Camino.

Now, it's described by them as a mid cut waterproof hiking shoe.

We haven't had our hands on these two test yet, but on closer inspection, it appears that they are actually

more of a running shoe than a hiking boot.

So the soul looks aggressive, ideal for very muddy trails.

In fact, it's aimed at off road exploring and trickier to rains.

It has waterproof features built in to keep your feet dry too, including an

extended heel collar and redeveloped upper construction with durable woven

fabric to create a watertight barrier.

Hoco Nao have released a brand new limited edition high performance mountain

shoot in collaboration with the luxury brand Montclair that moffat

speed two features of Vibram mega grip outsole with added
