¡Hola chicos! ¿Qué tal? Bienvenidos, bienvenidos a un nuevo episodio de “Español con Juan.” ¿Qué tal? ¿Cómo estáis? ¿Cómo va la vida? ¿Cómo va la vida? Me gusta, me gusta esa expresión: “¿Cómo va la vida?” Porque sí, hacía mucho tiempo que no usaba esta expresión: “¿Cómo va la vida?” Ahora yo siempre digo: “¿Qué tal? ¡Hola! ¿Qué tal? ¿Cómo estás?” Pero cuando yo vivía en España, cuando yo vivía en España hace muchos, muchos años, hace mucho, mucho tiempo pues yo no decía, yo no decía: “¡Hola! ¿Qué tal? ¿Cómo estás?” Eso, eso es algo que sólo se dice en los libros de español, sí. La gente, no sé. Bueno sí, sí no, estoy exagerando, estoy exagerando. Sí, también, la gente también habla así: “¿Qué tal? ¿Cómo estás?” Pero es muy normal, es muy frecuente, es muy informal en el lenguaje de cada día, ¿no? En la calle pues, es muy, es muy normal decir: “¡Hola! ¿Qué tal la vida? ¿Cómo va la vida? ¿Qué pasa? ¿Qué dices?” ¿No? Hay saludos diferentes, ¿no?

El español no es tan, tan estricto y tan, tan estructurado como parece en los libros de gramática y en los libros de español, ¿no? No sé, hay muchas formas diferentes de saludar, lo que pasa es que como yo llevo muchos años dando clases de español y yo sé que los estudiantes han aprendido en las escuelas de español y en la universidad, y en sus cursos han aprendido a decir: “Hola. ¿Qué tal? ¿Cómo estás?” Pues yo digo eso, yo digo: “¡Hola! ¿Qué tal? ¿Cómo estás?” Pero hay muchas formas diferentes, hay muchas formas diferentes. “¿Qué pasa, hombre? ¿Qué hay? ¿Qué dices? ¿Cómo estamos, eh? ¿Cómo estamos? ¿Qué te cuentas?” ¿Vale? Hay muchas formas diferentes, me gusta esa forma, me gusta esa forma: “¿Qué te cuentas?” ¿Vale? O “¿Qué me cuentas?” ¿No? “¿Qué dices? ¿Qué hay? ¿Qué pasa? ¿Dónde vas?”

Hay muchas formas diferentes, pero a mí me gusta esta: “¿Cómo va la vida? ¿Cómo va la vida?” Claro, no…si yo pregunto, si alguien te pregunta: “¿Cómo va la vida?” Por favor no respondas: cómo va, cómo va la vida, cómo te va la vida a ti. No, no eso es, es una forma, es una forma de saludar. ¿Vale?

Es una forma rápida de decir: “¿Qué tal? Hace mucho tiempo que no te veo.” ¿No? “Hace mucho tiempo que no te veo y dime, ¿Qué tal? ¿Cómo va la vida?” Cuéntame un poco sí, claro, cuéntame un poco. Si te digo: “¿Cómo va la vida?” Sí, cuéntame un poco pero no en detalle. ¿Vale?

No en detalle, no en detalle. Algunas cositas, ¿no? “Pues mira, estoy trabajando en este proyecto” o “Estoy estudiando español,” o “Estoy yendo al gimnasio” o “Estoy…” no sé. ¿Vale?

Me cuentas un poco qué haces en estos días, ¿no? Esa es, esa es la idea de la pregunta. Si alguien te pregunta: “¿Qué tal? ¿Cómo va la vida?” Pues entonces tú respondes: “Pues bien, bien, bien, sí estoy trabajando ahora mucho (o poco),” o “No tengo trabajo,” o “Estoy cansado de…” no sé, o “Tengo problemas con mi novia.” En fin, un poco. Sin exagerar. ¿Vale?

Depende, depende, a veces puedes contar más o menos depende de la persona, ¿no? Depende de la persona pero no hace falta entrar en detalles muy personales, ¿no? Un poco, un poco. ¿Vale?

Un poco.

Esto es interesante, esto es interesante porque en inglés, en Inglaterra, en Estados Unidos, en inglés siempre se pregunta: “How are you?” ¿No? Pero la gente, la gente no espera que tú digas cómo estás. ¿No?

La gente te pregunta: “How are you?” “¿Cómo estás?” Y todo el mundo dice, automáticamente: “I'm fine. I'm very well. I'm good.” ¿No? “Estoy bien. Estoy muy bien.” Y si tú respondes: “Estoy muy mal. Estoy enfermo. Tengo un problema,” la gente se sorprende, la gente se sorprende. ¿Por qué? Porque la gente no quiere saber cómo estás. ¿Vale?

Es una forma de saludo. Decir: “How are you?” en inglés es una forma de saludo, es como decir: “Hola.” ¿Vale? La gente no quiere que tú expliques cómo estás. ¿Vale?

No, la gente no quiere que tú expliques nada. Tienes que decir que estás bien.

Bueno. Pues en español es un poco diferente, hombre. Si alguien te pregunta: “¿Cómo va la vida? ¿Qué tal? ¿Cómo estás?” Pues depende, depende de la persona, depende de la situación, ¿no? Pero sí es posible, es posible que tú respondas con sinceridad: “Pues estoy fatal.” Depende de la persona, ¿no? Pero sí, si alguien te pregunta: “¿Qué tal la vida? ¿Cómo va la vida?” Pues quiere saber, quiere saber un poco, no demasiado, no demasiado, no en detalle, no, no. No con muchos detalles pero sí, sí quiere saber un poco cómo estás, cómo te sientes, ¿no? Puedes decir pues algo así como: “Ah pues, ahora tengo mucho trabajo. Estoy estudiando mucho, estoy un poco estresado. Por ahora estoy pensando en las vacaciones.” “Pues llevo varios meses estudiando alemán” o “Me voy de vacaciones la semana que viene.” En fin, puedes comentar, comentar un poco eso, cómo te va la vida, qué está pasando en tu vida en este momento. ¿Vale?

¿Veis, veis? ¿Os dais cuenta? ¿Os dais cuenta, queridos amigos? El español es muy, es muy flexible, es muy…todo depende del contexto. Yo cuando, cuando comparo, cuando comparo el español y el inglés yo alucino, yo alucino porque…quiero decir, “alucino” quiero decir que esto me sorprende. ¿No?

Que me sorprende. Yo alucino con el inglés porque el inglés es mucho más estructurado, el inglés es: “En este momento hay que decir esto, en esta situación hay que decir esto.” ¿Vale? Es como: “A es igual a X. X es igual a 5.” Entonces es una regla matemática ¿No? En esta situación, bueno: esto.

No hombre, estoy exagerando, estoy exagerando. Estoy exagerando pero digamos que lo que quiero decir es que el español, el español cambia mucho depende del contexto, depende de la situación. Es algo que tienes que aprender, tienes que aprender mucho en contexto. ¿Vale?

Por ejemplo esto de saludar, esto de saludar es interesante, ¿no? Cómo se responde, cómo se responde a los saludos, la variedad de saludos que hay. Yo recuerdo que una vez, una vez aquí a un amigo inglés que no había visto por algún tiempo le pregunté: “How is life?” Yo no sé si es correcto, no sé si es correcto traducir esto al inglés pero yo dije: “How is life?” ¿No? Yo quería decir: “¿Cómo va la vida? ¿Qué tal la vida?” Y él me dijo: “Bueno… ¿Quieres que te cuente ahora, en este momento toda mi vida, todos mis problemas y todo…?” Y bueno, el tío se quedó alucinando, el tío se quedó alucinando. Y yo también, y yo también. Esas cosas, esas cosas, esas cosas pequeñitas, esas cosas pequeñitas que hacen diferente, que hacen diferente a los idiomas y que hacen interesante aprender otro idioma, ¿no?

Y ahora, ahora recuerdo, ahora recuerdo también, ahora recuerdo también que algo que, algo que, algo que me di cuenta. Bueno…sí, algo que me di cuenta hace, hace poco tiempo después de llevar en Inglaterra, en Londres muchos años porque antes, antes no me había dado cuenta. Y es que cuando encuentras a alguien por la calle, a alguien que conoces, no a un amigo pero a alguien que conoces, en España, en España dices: “¡Adiós, hasta luego!” ¿Vale? “¡Adiós! Hasta luego.” Pero en inglés, en inglés no puedes decir: “Goodbye!” o “Bye!” No puedes decir eso, tienes que decir: “Hello.” ¿Vale? ¿Entendéis? Porque para un inglés, si tú a un inglés que lo ves por la calle le dices: “Goodbye,” quiere decir que es que no quieres hablar con él. Él piensa que tú no quieres hablar con él, es como diciendo: “Vete, vete, no quiero hablar contigo.” Y entonces en español, no. En español es un saludo normal. Si encuentras a alguien por la calle y no te vas a detener, pues es de buena educación decir: “¡Hasta luego! ¡Adiós!” ¿Vale?

“!Hasta luego, adiós!” Es más frecuente, yo creo que es incluso más frecuente que decir: “Hola.” ¿Vale? Sí, yo creo que “Hola. Hola,” lo dices cuando ves a alguien por la calle, dices: “¡Hola!” pero sólo si te vas a parar. ¿Vale?

Si te vas a detener a hablar con esa persona. ¿Vale?

No siempre, todo esto es flexible. ¿Vale?

Todo esto es flexible pero sí, yo diría “Hola,” yo diría “Hola,” sólo si me voy a detener, si me voy a parar a hablar con esta persona. Pero si no me voy a parar, si no me voy a detener entonces no, entonces yo sigo adelante y digo: “Pues, hasta luego. Adiós.” ¿Vale?

Pues si en Inglaterra, en inglés tú le dices a alguien por la calle: “Adiós. Goodbye.” Entonces esa persona alucina, digamos que alucina contigo. Alucina contigo porque piensa que no quieres hablar con él. ¿Sí? Bueno, no sé, yo de esto, fijaros, fijaros que yo me di cuenta, me di cuenta de este detalle, me di cuenta de este detalle pues después de llevar aquí muchos años, ¿vale? Yo creo que me di cuenta de este detalle hace cuatro o cinco años. Alguien, alguien me lo dijo, alguien me lo dijo. Si yo no, si no, si no me lo dicen yo, yo siempre decía aquí en Inglaterra durante muchos años, siempre decía: “Goodbye!” cuando veía a alguien por la calle: “Bye!” ¿De acuerdo? Eso es, es muy interesante, es muy interesante.

Y bueno, y tengo un amigo, tengo un amigo italiano, tengo un amigo italiano que es mucho peor, mucho, mucho peor porque este chico, este chico no habla inglés, no habla inglés, habla muy, muy poco inglés. Creo que no estudió inglés en la escuela, en el colegio, de pequeño no estudió inglés. Y bueno, él vive en Italia y cuando viene, cuando viene a Londres, cuando viene a visitarme, cuando viene a Inglaterra pues salimos y él sabe algunas palabras pero muy pocas y entonces la última vez que vino, la última vez que vino me hizo reír, me hizo reír porque no sé si sabéis que en italiano se dice: “Ciao” para saludar y para despedirse, ¿no? Cuando, cuando tú ves a alguien, cuando te encuentras con alguien en la calle, cuando te topas con alguien, ese es un verbo que aprendimos en el último episodio, ¿vale? Cuando te topas con alguien por la calle dices, en italiano dices: “Ciao,” ¿Vale? Y cuando te vas, cuando te despides, cuando quieres decir adiós, dices también: “Ciao.” ¿Vale? Pero eso es en italiano, no español y no en inglés. En español tenemos: “Hola y Adiós.” ¿Vale? Y en inglés tiene: “Hello” and “Goodbye.”

Pero este chico, este chico que no sabe hablar bien inglés y ha aprendido algunas palabras, pues, cuando llega, cuando llega por ejemplo, cuando llega a un restaurante dice: “Ciao” dice, perdón, dice: “Hello.” Y cuando se va, cuando se va, cuando se va del restaurante dice también hello: “Hello!” Claro, la gente alucina, la gente alucina porque cuando se va de un restaurante o se va del hotel y sale dice: “Hello!” y la gente alucina con él. Yo le he dicho, yo le he dicho: “Mira, que Hello es sólo para cuando llegas, para saludar y para irte es Goodbye.” Y él, él lo entiende, dice: “Ay, es verdad. Es verdad.” Pero claro, como es italiano y está acostumbrado a esto él en su cabeza, en su cabeza tiene metido, no sé cómo, tiene metido que “Hello” es “Ciao.” ¿Vale? “Hello” es “Ciao.” “Hello = (igual a) Ciao” y como él cuando se va de un sitio quiere decir: “Ciao” entonces automáticamente dice: “Hello” y hace, hace un poco el ridículo, hace un poco el ridículo. Yo la primera vez que lo vi, la primera vez que lo vi aquí en Londres diciendo: “Hello” cuando se iba de un restaurante me eché a reír y vi la cara del camarero un poco extraña, que lo miraba un poco sorprendido, ¿no? Se quedó alucinando, claro, se quedó alucinando.

Pero bueno, estas son cosas, estas son cosas que se aprenden… ¿Dónde? ¿Dónde se aprenden estas cosas? ¿En los libros? Hombre, un poco sí. Claro, yo defiendo los libros, en los libros se aprenden muchísimas cosas pero sobre todo se aprende practicándolo. ¿Vale?

Porque claro, tú en el libro aprendes que “Hello” es “Hola” y “Goodbye” es “Adiós,” pero claro, este pequeño detalle, este pequeño detalle de que cuando vas por la calle y te topas con alguien, encuentras a alguien conocido no puedes decir: “Goodbye,” tienes que decir: “Hello.” ¿Vale? Tienes que decir: “Hola.” Pues claro, eso se aprende en la calle, haciéndolo. E igual cuando vas, como he dicho, cuando estás en España y vas por la calle…yo he visto, me he dado cuenta, ¿vale? Me he dado cuenta cuando voy a España ahora, que voy de vacaciones. Bueno, me he dado cuenta de que sobre todo los extranjeros, ¿vale? Sobre todo los extranjeros cuando quieren saludar a alguien por la calle dicen: “¡Hola!” ¿Vale? “¡Hola!” y…bueno, sí no está mal, no está mal pero yo creo que un español, un español diría: “Hasta luego.” ¿Vale? Si te vas a parar, si te vas a detener a hablar con esa persona entonces sí, entonces dices: “¡Hola! ¿Qué tal?” ¿No? Si vas a…si entras a un restaurante, si entras en una tienda, si entras, si vas a la recepción del hotel, al camarero, entonces sí, ahí puedes decir: “¡Hola! ¿Qué tal?”

Pero no sé, si conoces a alguien, si conoces a alguien de vista, ¿no? De vista. ¿Vale?

No es tu amigo. Conoces a alguien de vista y te cruzas con esa persona por la calle, bueno, puedes decir: “¡Hola!” sí, pero yo creo que es más natural, más español, es más digamos es más nativo decir: “Hasta luego.” ¿Vale? “Adiós, hasta luego.” ¿De acuerdo? Todo esto, claro, todo esto es relativo. También hay costumbres, bueno, forma parte de las costumbres personales o cambia de una ciudad a otra, de un país a otro, ¿vale? Quizás en México, en la Argentina es diferente. Pero a mí me parece, a mí me parece por lo menos a mí me parece que en España es así, ¿vale? Cuando te encuentras con alguien es: “¡Hasta luego! ¡Adiós!” ¿Vale?

Bueno, estos temas son muy interesantes, ¿no? Estos temas son muy interesantes, cómo, cómo se habla español real, cómo se habla el español real, el español auténtico y cómo se aprende. ¿Cómo se aprende el español auténtico, el español real? Bueno pues, pues se aprende estando en contacto con españoles o con latinoamericanos, ¿no? Depende del tipo de español que tú quieras aprender. Si quieres aprender el español de Argentina, o de México, de Venezuela o de Colombia pues claro, tienes, intenta estar en contacto, escuchar mucho, leer y hablar con personas del país que te interesa, ¿vale? Y en el caso de España pues igual, tienes que estar en contacto con españoles, leer libros o artículos escritos por y para españoles. Eso, eso es lo mejor para aprender el español, el español auténtico, el español real. Estar en contacto con gente que habla español real. ¿De acuerdo?

Y los libros de texto que se estudian en las escuelas de español, en los cursos de español, sí, claro, son interesantes, son muy interesantes pero…Ayudan, ayudan muchísimo, claro que sí, ayudan muchísimo pero siempre hay que recordar, hay que recordar siempre que, claro, son los diálogos que se usan, los ejemplos, las frases, pues son muy estructuradas, son muy artificiales, ¿no? Está todo preparado, está todo preparado de antemano para que sea, para que sea fácil comprenderlo, para que sea fácil entenderlo, para que sea fácil recordarlo y…pero la gente no habla así, la gente no habla así. ¿No?

Entonces…Sí, hay que estar en contacto con el español real y además, algo que yo quería comentar, sí, algo que yo quería comentar es que hay que, cuando vas a España, ¿no? Cuando estás en España, cuando vas al restaurante o una tienda, o cuando paseas por la calle, cuando estás en un parque, cuando das un paseo…En cualquier momento cuando estás en España hay que observar, hay que observar mucho, hay que observar y escuchar. Puedes aprender muchísimo, puedes aprender muchísimo simplemente observando. Los estudiantes y la gente, la gente que estudia idiomas en general estamos muy obsesionados con hablar. ¿No?

Pensamos que hablar, tenemos que hablar. Hay que hablar y es verdad, sí, es verdad, hay que hablar. Hablar es importante si quieres, si quieres desarrollar tu habilidad para hablar con fluidez, claro tienes que acostumbrarte a hablar, eso es importante. Eso es obvio. Pero, pero escuchar y observar cómo hablan los nativos, eso para mí es aún más importante, aún más importante porque cuando tú escuchas y cuando tú observas a los nativos, a los españoles hablando, tú aprendes tantísimo.

Si, por ejemplo, si tú vas a España, la próxima vez que vayas a España tú por ejemplo, te vas a un bar o te vas a una terraza de una cafetería, te sientas, te tomas un café. Y mientras estás allí sentado mira a tu alrededor, a la gente que pasa, a la gente que tienes cerca, que está, gente que está sentada cerca de ti en la terraza y escuchas, haz un poco de espía, ¿no? Escucha qué dicen, escucha qué dice el niño que corre, escucha qué dice la señora mayor que habla con su hija, escucha qué dice el chico de la bicicleta, escucha qué dice aquel señor mientras habla por teléfono. Escucha lo que dicen, trata de entender cómo hablan, intenta comprender, intenta, intenta coger alguna de estas frases que usan, algunas de estas expresiones. ¿No?

Haciendo eso puedes aprender muchísimo, ¿no? La niña que dice: “¡Corre!” El hombre que dice: “Ahora no puedo.” La mujer que dice: “Pero mira chiquilla, ven aquí.” Todas estas frases, todas estas expresiones tú vas a aprender muchísimo simplemente observando, simplemente escuchando, ¿no? Cuando vas por la calle escucha qué dice la persona que pasa a tu lado, la persona que va hablando por teléfono, el hombre que está esperando el autobús, el conductor del autobús. ¿Qué dice? La persona que, la persona que se levanta de, no sé, en el cine, la persona que te vende la entrada en el cine. ¿Qué dice? En fin, observa, observa cómo habla la gente, observa las expresiones .

Y yo, yo eso hago. Cuando viajo a…a…no sé, cuando voy a Francia, cuando voy a Italia, por ejemplo yo presto mucha atención a cómo usan, cómo usan los nativos el idioma, cuándo lo usan, qué dicen. ¿No?

Y yo intento recordarlo, intento recordarlo. Yo estoy menos preocupado por hablar, menos preocupado por hablar que por escuchar. ¿Vale?

Me interesa más escuchar, me interesa ir al supermercado y escuchar qué dice la gente en la cola del supermercado. Qué dice la gente cuando están comentando, no sé, el precio del pan, cuando están comentando el tipo de vino que quieren comprar, qué dicen, qué expresiones usan. ¿No?

En esas situaciones vas a aprender muchísimo, muchísimo, muchísimo. Yo recuerdo que cuando iba antes, cuando iba a Italia y estaba aprendiendo italiano, pues yo llevaba conmigo una pequeña libreta, un cuaderno y un bolígrafo, y cuando escuchaba frases que eran interesantes, que me gustaban, que pensaba: “Ah, esta frase está muy bien. Esta expresión, ¿qué significa?” Entonces yo la escribía. ¿Vale?

Yo la escribía y al cabo del día, al cabo del día cuando volvía a casa, cuando volvía al hotel o a casa, miraba, volvía a mirar todas aquellas expresiones, todas aquellas frases, ¡Guau! Tenía un mogollón, tenía un mogollón de frases, un montón, un mogollón de frases, un mogollón de expresiones y las había, las había aprendido en contexto. ¿No?

Las había aprendido en contexto. Y cuando yo las quería usar, cuando yo las quería usar, recordaba muy bien, recordaba muy bien el contexto, recordaba muy bien quién las había dicho y por qué. Tenía una imagen en mi cabeza de la niña que decía: “¡Corre, corre!” O del chico que decía: “Ahora no puedo.” O del hombre que decía: “Pero es que es muy tarde.” ¿No? Entonces yo tenía en mi cuaderno todas estas frases pero en mi cabeza tenía la imagen de esa persona diciéndolo, tenía la situación, tenía el contexto y así aprendí muchísimo, así aprendí muchísimo. Porque después cuando yo estaba en situaciones similares, cuando yo quería decir esta, cuando yo quería expresar estas ideas, me venía, me venía a la cabeza, me venía, me acordaba de aquel señor, de aquella niña y de aquel chico y de la frase que decía y bueno, me acordaba muy bien, lo había aprendido muy bien en contexto. ¿No?

Mucho mejor que aprender listas de palabras o listas de expresiones. No sé, a mí me aburre aprender listas de expresiones y listas de palabras, es mucho mejor aprender así, en contexto.

Entonces, yo creo que sí, hay que estar en contacto con el español de la calle, hay que estar en contacto con el español real, con el español que es, que hablan los nativos, que hablan los españoles y si tenéis la oportunidad de ir a España de vacaciones o a hacer algún curso, yo, este es un consejo que…bueno, que os doy porque creo que es muy interesante de observar y escuchar mucho, en silencio, ¿vale? No estéis muy preocupados por hablar, por hablar, por hablar. Es, creo que si os centráis en escuchar qué dice la gente y hacer, tomar notas quizás, tomar notas, no necesitáis, no necesitáis ni siquiera escribirlo. ¿Vale?

Yo lo escribía, pero incluso si no escribís, incluso si no escribís estas frases…haced, tomad una nota mental. ¿Vale?

Haced una nota mental en vuestra cabeza y luego os vais a acordar muy bien de todas estas expresiones y del contexto y de la situación en la que, en la que se usan, ¿no? Porque lo habéis aprendido así, en contexto.

Bueno. Pues, yo creo que hoy ha sido un episodio muy interesante, ¿no? Hemos hablado de un montón de cosas sobre cómo es aprender este español real. ¿No?

Este español de la calle. Todas estas expresiones que se aprenden sobre todo en contexto. ¿Vale?

Y…en fin, espero que os haya gustado, espero que os haya gustado lo que os he dicho hoy, lo que os he contado hoy. No sé si estáis de acuerdo. Quizá estoy equivocado, no lo sé, quizá estoy equivocado. Decidme, hay entre vosotros hay muchos españoles, hay muchos nativos, ¿no? Entonces… ¿Estoy equivocado en lo que digo? ¿Qué pensáis? ¿Qué pensáis? ¿Tengo razón o no? Escribidme algún comentario. Los estudiantes igual. ¿Qué pensáis? Los ingleses. ¿Tengo razón en lo que he dicho o no? Sobre Inglaterra, sobre cómo se usa el inglés en Inglaterra, no sé. ¿Qué pensáis? ¿Qué pensáis de lo que digo? Me gusta mucho leer vuestros comentarios, no tengo tiempo de contestar a todos pero los leo, los leo y me gusta. Y yo aprendo, yo aprendo porque yo a veces estoy equivocado, ¿eh? A veces tengo, no sé, unas ideas equivocadas o tengo una impresión equivocada de las cosas. Quizá estoy equivocado, yo no soy perfecto. Bueno, por supuesto que no.
