Hey everyone, this is Aliyah with English Sponge and we are back for a second episode of playing Stardew Valley.
Today I am joined by John.
Hey John, how are you doing?
» Good.
How are you doing?
» I'm doing great.
I'm excited to show you this game.
» I am looking forward to playing this game.
» So, um right now we're meeting outside of your cabin.
Um just to let you know, I have uh a farm here in Stardew Valley.
» Oh, great.
And uh the sp the farm's name is English sponge farm.
So you should feel very welcome here.
» I will feel right at home.
» Yes.
And um so this is a little house that I made for you.
That's the only thing that I've done in between um the last episode and the start of this one is I went and I got you a house.
So on my farm.
So » um » welcome.
And I gave you some privacy.
So, if you want to follow me, um, I'll show you where my house is.
» Perfect.
I I think it's funny that we are wearing the same shirt.
» Yeah, we literally picked the same shirt.
In the last episode, I spent like a really long time go trying to pick a shirt.
And so, I love that you just like picked the exact same shirt.
» I went a two over and I liked the brown one.
So, » yeah, that's cool.
Well, people will know that we uh both work at English Sponge Farm.
» Perfect.
It's like a uni It's like a uniform.
» Uh-huh.
Exactly.
Um so, let me just give you a little bit of a explanation of what's going on here.
So, this is my house.
» Okay.
» And um you can see I have some mail.
We can open that together in a second.
Uh basically the purpose of the game is to um uh raise crops, plants, um animals, um sell them in our small town and befriend all of the people in the town um who live here in Stardew Valley.
So I started the game um and I got a gift just like you got a gift in your house.
Um, and I planted those seeds in the ground.
That's what you're looking at.
» So, the first thing that we do every day is we water our plants.
» So, you probably have a watering can.
» Um, you can just go » go over go next to any plant and you can water it.
Exactly.
» I see.
» So, what type of seeds did you get?
» I got parsnip seeds.
» Awesome.
Me, too.
» That'll be fun.
» Yeah, the season right now is spring, so all of the seeds that we'll get will be spring plants.
Um, if you have your watering can still, um, go ahead and come over to this little pond, you can fill up your watering can there.
» Okay.
Yep.
» The other thing I'll explain real quick is this box up here.
Um, this is where we sell anything that we grow.
» Okay.
This box here.
» Mhm.
» Perfect.
There's also other stuff, valuable things in the game that you can pick up, and you can choose to sell those things here, too, like fish.
» But we'll we'll discover all of that uh in the future.
» All right.
» Um first, do you want to go ahead and head and see if you can open that envelope in the mail?
» Sure.
» Um how do I open it?
um might not let you uh because you're my second player here.
So, usually I would press like A.
» Okay.
See, A just makes me move around.
» Okay.
Yeah, I think it's it's trying to get me to do it then.
» Yeah.
» Um so, I'll open it.
» Okay.
» Uh it's an advertisement.
It says, "I keep finding cool stuff, but my backpack is full."
Does this sound like you?
Well, Pierre's got you covered.
Stop by Pierre's General Store today and check out our affordable size 24 backpack.
See you soon.
So, this is coming at the perfect time because we have the same amount of space, you know, in our pockets.
We have our tools.
Um, that's where our watering can, you know, lives and then anything we pick up.
But we don't have very much extra space.
But in this game, we will have to carry a lot of things around.
So, he's advertising like, "Hey, you can buy more space with me."
» Perfect.
Okay.
» Um, I think before we head out to town, let's clean up the farm a little bit.
you can test out some of your tools.
» Okay.
» So, why don't you go ahead and like experiment with what the different tools do and and tell me tell me how uh it's going.
» All right.
Okay.
So, right now I am breaking stone.
I'm using I am using my pickaxe to break the stone and put it in my pocket.
» Nice.
Yeah.
And I'll help you out with that.
» Can I do anything to the plants that are back here?
It I'm not sure what they are, but Okay.
» Yeah.
They're just like um just like wild plants or weeds.
Um you can take uh either your axe or your scythe.
» I see.
» And um clear clear those up.
» All right.
And I'm going to take my axe and get this tree.
So, you'll notice that every time you use your tools, your energy goes down just a little bit.
Uh, you can see your energy bar in the bottom right corner.
» Mhm.
» So, I spent a little bit of my energy doing this.
And this is going to help us uh get to each other's houses more easily.
All this stuff was in the way before.
» Yeah.
Now, we can just walk back and forth very quickly.
» Mhm.
Did you notice uh this other building here?
» Yes, I did.
It looks like it's either needing to be built or it's falling apart.
» Yeah, exactly.
So, my um I just clicked on it and it says whatever this once was, it's now in ruins.
So, um backstory is I inherited this farm from my grandfather.
» Okay.
Um, apparently he used to live here.
He, you know, he worked on the farm and he gave it to me as a place to discover myself basically.
You know, I left the big city and I came to live here in a small town.
» Ah, okay.
Kind of.
» So, that's good for now.
» Go ahead.
Sorry.
» I was going to say just kind of get away from it all and » Exactly.
» relax in the country.
» Live a simpler life.
» Yes.
So, go ahead and follow me.
So, now it's night time.
You can see it's getting darker.
» Let's head into town so you can meet some people.
» Okay.
This is a long walk.
Yeah, it is.
» You need a car, » right?
Um, okay.
So, I want to take you here to the Starrop Saloon.
It's the only It's the only restaurant in town.
» Oh.
» All right.
So, feel free to explore, meet people, um, let us know what they say to you.
» Okay.
Okay.
Well, the first person that I met is not very friendly.
He said, "What do you want?
Leave me alone."
» So, I guess I will leave him alone.
Okay.
We met somebody named Clint.
» Cool.
» Oh, I found the arcade.
» Mhm.
» Where we can play video games.
» Yep.
Plenty of couches and chairs.
» Yep.
And pool table and vending machine.
» Let's see.
Fireplace is nice.
It'll keep you warm.
» Mhm.
» Okay.
I met somebody named Pam and she just said, "Hey kid, the name's Pam.
Shane said the same thing to me.
He said, "What do you want?
Leave me alone."
» Yeah.
Not very friendly.
All right.
I think I will get Well, I can't afford much, but let's see.
Um, maybe I'll save my money.
» Yeah, we don't have too much yet.
Um, how much do you have, by the way?
» 302.
Okay.
So, I think what's happening is we're sharing money.
» Ah, that would make sense.
» Yeah.
So, I think anything you spend is like it's going to go down for me too.
» Okay.
» So, yeah, we have very very little money right now.
Um, money will start coming in when we start um selling our fully grown crops.
So, it'll take a few days for that.
Okay.
So, we're getting a message that it's getting late.
And so what that means is we need to run back home.
» Oh boy.
Okay.
Does something come out at night?
» Um, nothing comes out at night, but you basically collapse at 2:00 a.m.
» Oh jeez.
Okay.
Oh.
Oh, I am getting stuck on things.
I think I'm lost.
Okay, I found the way.
» No, » I found the way.
» Okay.
» Yeah, I just saw you pop up.
» Yeah.
So, you can see that the day goes by like really fast.
» Um, there's only so much you can do.
Um, so go ahead and run back to your house and get into your bed.
» Gotcha.
Oh, boy.
It's 1:00 a.m.
Okay.
Pass the old house.
All right.
Safe and sound.
» Okay.
We made it.
We're tucked in.
Um, so first day, what are your thoughts?
» Well, um, doesn't seem to be too much work to do.
Um, but I'm I suppose we'll water more plants tomorrow and and put more seeds in the ground as well.
» Yeah, absolutely.
Um, I personally don't have any more seeds, » but » I do.
So, » okay, perfect.
Let's get those planted.
» All right.
Looks like I have mail.
» Oh, I'm going to come over to you.
» All right.
Okay.
Yeah, I just got mail.
They said, "Hello there.
Just got back from a fishing trip.
You should come down to the beach sometime.
I've got something for you."
From Willie.
» Awesome.
» So, oh, another one.
Oh, this is uh this is an ad from uh from a let's see from Joja Mart.
» Oh, okay.
That's the other other store in town.
» Okay.
Yeah, they had a it's a two-page piece of mail.
Let's see.
Um should I plant should I plant the parsnips at your house or I guess this is the farm, right?
Yeah, this is the only place where I've um cleared some space.
So, I would yeah, I would just connect it to the other plant.
Uh meanwhile, I'm going to make some space in my pocket by dropping some things in my um my chest here, my drawer.
And these parips are actually ready, so I'm picking them.
» Okay, great.
And I'll water these guys over here.
» Yeah, I'll water the seeds I just planted.
Wonderful.
» Nice.
» Um, » so what I'm going to do I have mail, too.
I got the same Joja Mart ad.
» Yeah.
» Okay.
Nothing too complicated there.
Um I'm going to keep the parsnips in my pocket for now.
Okay.
» Because I'm actually going to sell them in town um while I show you the place where we can buy seeds.
» Okay.
Now, what should I do with the things in my inventory like the wood that I have and the weeds?
» Yeah.
Um, you can keep them.
You can also drop them into my uh my chest that's in front of my house.
That's where I'm collecting supplies.
» Okay.
» Yeah.
Um, so I just got a cut scene.
» Mhm.
» Um, do you see that as well?
» Yeah, I'm seeing your cut scene.
» Okay, perfect.
So, this is a big part of the game.
So, can I actually have you um read uh Louiswis's voice?
» Uh, sure.
Um, okay.
This is the Pelican Town Community Center, or what's left of it, anyway.
It used to be the pride and joy of the town, always bustling with activity.
Now just look at it.
It's shameful.
These days the young folk would rather sit in front of the TV than engage with the community.
But listen to me, I sound like an old fool.
Jojo Corporation has beenounding me to sell them the land so they can turn it into a warehouse.
Pelican Town could use the money, but there's something stopping me from selling it.
I guess old-timers like me get attached to relics of the past.
Ah, well, if anyone else buys a Jojo company membership, I'm just going to go ahead and sell it.
Wow.
» Sigh.
Here, let's go inside.
H.
What's this?
I guess Vincent and Jazz must have been playing in here.
This place is even more dilapitated than I remember.
Little guy popped up.
Dilapidated means like torn, run down, falling apart shape.
» Yeah.
Just like the that other building on my farm.
» Yes, the other building.
That was a dilapitated building.
What » there?
There was a green little guy.
» It looked like a little apple.
» What's the matter?
Are you ill?
He thinks she's crazy.
You saw something.
H I wouldn't be surprised if this place was full of rats.
Oh, there it is again.
» It's cute.
» Yeah, you're worrying me, Aaliyah.
Look, I think I'm going I think I'm going to head home.
I need some lunch.
Hey, I'll keep this place unlocked from now on.
Maybe you can help catch that rat if you have some extra time.
» What an interesting task he's giving us.
Strange.
» I'm just a farmer, not not a uh pet control guy.
Pest control guy.
» Professional rat catcher.
» Yeah.
» Okay.
So, definitely need to explore that place more.
» Yes.
» Uh but for now, um I'm going to head back to town.
I think that's where you are.
» Yep.
Sort of.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yep.
Yay.
Okay, we're back together.
» All right.
» Um, so go ahead and let's go to the store.
» Still learning how to open doors.
» Oh, yeah.
Um, so this is where they have that backpack for sale.
Um, we both desperately need the space, but we do not have 2,000 gold.
Um, we need to sell make some money.
So, I'm going to sell those parsnips I picked up.
» Okay, » we um we grew 16 parsnips successfully.
» Nice.
» And so now we have 862 gold.
Still um not enough to get the backpack.
» That's um but if you would like um go ahead and go to the counter and buy some more seeds.
» Okay.
Oh, he walked away.
» Oh, I still have the menu open.
So, I guess I'm sort of shouting at him.
» Um, let's see.
We'll buy some cal cauliflower seeds.
» Cool.
» I don't have room.
Wait, yeah, I do.
And Let's see.
Maybe two more and maybe some I'll buy two potato seeds.
» Cool.
» Perfect.
Yep.
» All right, let's um before we head back home um going to talk to her real quick.
She said it's a fine looking day.
Oh yeah, good idea.
Look at the exclamation point.
Usually it is like a task we can do to help somebody in town.
» Yeah.
This is the calendar that I'm seeing.
Who knows?
» Mhm.
It tells us all of the special events that are going to happen.
Birthdays, um, holidays.
» Louis, » I always try to give someone a gift when it's their birthday.
Well, Louisis's birthday is in two days, so maybe we can catch that rat for him.
» Yeah, exactly.
» For his birthday.
» Yeah.
I'm just going to go back to the starrop saloon one more time.
There's a lot more people here.
» Okay.
Um I'll come by.
» And I have a task that um I need to meet all of the people in town.
» Okay.
I think I have the same.
I have met someone named Penny.
Oh wow, there is a lot more people.
» Maybe because it's Friday night.
» Oh yeah, true.
» I'm talking to Willie and he said, "Ahoy there.
It's nice to see young folk moving into the valley.
It's not very common these days."
» Yeah.
I'm talking to somebody named Elliot and they said, "Ah, the new farmer we've all been expecting and whose arrival has sparked many a conversation."
» He's very um he has a way with words.
» Oh, he he's he has the long wavy hair and the very poetic look to him.
He says, "I'm Elliot.
I live in the little cabin by the beach.
It's a pleasure to meet you."
Oh, so he's a little a little beachside cabin.
» Mhm.
I'm talking to Leia.
Um she has a braid and she she's at the same table as Elliot.
She said it's simpler to be friends with the trees.
They don't have much to say.
» That's » Wow.
They're both very like I don't I don't know like earthy people.
I don't know what to say.
» Yeah.
No, I know what you mean.
Pam uh wants the bartender to give her another pint.
» You know, I went to go talk to uh Leia as well, and she said something different.
Now I can't get her to talk again, but it was a different » Oh, yeah.
Usually they only have like one or two things to say a day.
» Okay.
I went to talk to Marne and it says Marne doesn't seem to notice that you're there.
How nice of her.
» She's uh really into her conversation with Louiswis.
» I'm just invisible.
» The mean guy in the corner by the fire.
He said, "Don't you have work to do?"
You know, I don't like this guy.
» He's so rude.
» Okay, so it's getting late.
11:10 p.m.
» So, let's um And looks like everybody else is heading back home, too.
» So, let's do the same.
I just I just love that unanimously.
or well um at 2:00 a.m.
everybody just collapses.
They just they » pass out.
They can't handle it.
» Yeah.
Um so I think what we found out is a lot of interesting stuff is happening down at the beach.
» Um let's agree to go there next episode.
What do you say?
Yeah, I think going to the beach would be a good uh good next episode.
We can have a cliffhanger here.
» Okay, sounds good.
And we can plant some of those seeds tomorrow, too, that you bought before we head down there.
» Good idea.
» Cool.
» Awesome.
» Sounds like a plan.
» Sounds good to me.
» Okay, I'll say good night then.
» All right, good night.
