The Spring of Youth
This is an old story from Japan by Lafcadio Hearn.
It's a story about wanting to become young again.
An old man and woman live in the mountains.
The man cuts wood.
The woman works around the house.
One day, the old man finds a spring in the woods.
He drinks from the spring.
He sees his face in the water.
He is very surprised.
He is now young again!
He runs to tell his wife.
"Look," he says.
"I'm young again."
His wife is surprised, too.
"Where is the spring?" she asks.
"I want to drink from it."
The man tells her about the spring.
She goes to the spring.
A few hours later, his wife is not home.
"Where is she?" he thinks.
"I must find her."
The man finds a baby next to the spring.
"Oh no, this is my wife!" he thinks.
He takes the baby back to the house.
