Entering into the U.S. The top 9 questions you may be asked - Learn English with Camille

Welcome back to my channel, I am so glad you're here with me.

Going through customs and immigration can be a bit intimidating, especially if you've never

traveled before, because everything is new, and you don't know what to expect, and every country

has their way of doing things. I have traveled to many different countries and being real with you,

sometimes the guys behind the counter in their uniforms can be a little intimidating,

especially if I don't speak the language that they speak. So in today's video, I hope to put

your mind at peace, and share with you a bit about this process, the potential questions that you may

be asked while in U.S. customs, as well as how to respond confidently. So are you guys ready?

Let's go! Obviously if you've entered into America legally, you have nothing to worry about,

but of course just act calm, and remember to respond with short and concise answers. So

you will have to fill out a form called the customs border protection form

that they give you on the airplane, or at the counter, and you'll present that form along

with your passport. So you'll have to put your name, your flight number, your passport number,

the address that you'll be staying at while in the U.S. and also anything else that you bought

while overseas that you may need to declare. So once you have this form filled out, you go like I

said with your passport to the correct line: U.S. citizens or visitors, so the visitor line for you,

and you wait in the line for the agent to call you forward. So they probably will not ask you

all of these questions, but I wanted to go ahead and prepare you just in case they do. So here is

the number one question, can I see your passport? And so you respond at this time, yes, here you go,

and you hand them your passport. Okay that's not so hard. Question number two,

how long do you plan to stay? So you can simply respond with how long you plan on staying. I

will stay for one week, one month, whatever your length of time is, forever! No, don't say that,

they probably won't let you in, they want to make sure that you're gonna go back to your country.

So question number three, have you been here before? And your response, no

it's my first time, or yes I have been here once, or I have been here five times. I love America,

whatever you want. So question number four, what is the purpose of your travel? So why are you

traveling? So your responses will be, I am here on a business trip, or I am here for tourism,

or I am here to study. Usually those three things are the most common responses to this question.

So question number five, where are you coming from today? So where are you traveling from?

You can respond I am traveling from Brazil, or I'm coming from Italy, or I'm coming from Argentina,

wherever it is that you're traveling from. Question number six,

are you traveling alone? And you say yes I am alone, or no, I am with and whoever you're with,

your husband, your wife, your family. Question number seven, what do you do?

So what is your job? I am a teacher, I am a stay-at-home mom, I own a restaurant,

I am a businessman. They want to make sure that you have work to go back to in your home country.

A potential question number eight, do you have any family here in the U.S.? And you simply respond,

no I do not, yes and you say who. I have a brother here. They might say, what does your brother do?

And you could respond with his job, he works as a waiter in a restaurant. Do short answers,

you don't want them to think that you're coming to the U.S. to stay living with your family in the

U.S. so try not to give them more details than they ask for. Potential question number nine,

do you have any items to declare? So you must tell them what you bought if

anything when you were abroad, but you will have already written this down in the form, so

after all of these questions they'll want to take your fingerprint, and also do your photo as well,

take your photo. So then they'll give you a stamp in your passport, and you will then proceed to

baggage claim, where you will pick up your luggage. You'll get your bags,

you may get selected for further inspection of your bags depending on the agent, and so

of course then you comply, and let them inspect. So after that, you did it. I want to be the first

one to welcome you to the United States. So I hope this video puts your mind at peace, and that you

feel more prepared for your travel to the U.S. So if you're traveling, if you're coming to the U.S.

I encourage you to practice your responses out loud, watch this video as many times as you need,

pause it, write the questions down, write out your responses so then you can feel confident

when you're going through the border control. Once again thank you for watching. I love to hear from

you guys in the comments below. Have you ever been to the U.S. before? How was your experience

in customs? Don't forget to subscribe to my channel to see more videos and activate the

little bell so that you won't miss any. We'll see you guys soon. Tchau, ciao.
