Go off and ring

Angela was talking on the phone when the fire alarm went off last night.

Questions: Is it okay to use “ring” to replace “go off” in the sentence?

  1. Angela was talking on the phone when the fire alarm rang last night.
  2. Angela was talking on the phone when the fire alarm was ringing last night.
    Thank you!!!

“Went off” sounds better.

Rang, sounded and went off are all OK. I would personally use go/went off.
