Capítulo 4 – El regreso

El camión llega a Barcelona. El transportista detiene el motor y salimos por la parte trasera. El hombre mayor se esconde entre la gente y, entonces, le doy las gracias: –Gracias por el viaje. –De nada, chico. ¡Pasa un buen día! Vemos el restaurante La Paella Loca. Entramos y no hay nadie dentro. Son las 5 de la tarde y aún es muy pronto para la cena. Le pregunto al padre de Armando: –¿Qué hacemos? Y él me responde: –Yo no tengo hambre. Vamos hacia el apartamento de mi hijo. El hombre tiene la dirección de Armando. Tomamos el autobús 53 en silencio. Después andamos hacia el apartamento de Armando. El hombre no sabe que Armando es mi amigo. Armando me ha hablado de su padre, pero muy pocas veces. Yo sé que nunca se han visto en persona. No sé si decirle al hombre que conozco a Armando. Mejor no. Quiero que sea una gran sorpresa. Llegamos al apartamento y entramos en el portal. Allí, la portera nos dice: –¡Buenas tardes! –Hola –le respondemos.

El hombre mayor se acerca a la portera. Quiere averiguar el número de piso de Armando. –Déjamelo a mí –le digo. Subimos en el ascensor hasta la tercera planta y salimos. Andamos hacia la puerta del apartamento. –Es aquí –le digo al hombre. –¡Por fin! ¿Cómo sabes que este es el apartamento? Finalmente se le explico. Le digo que conozco a Armando desde hace muchos años. Fue la suerte o el destino lo que hizo que viajáramos en el mismo camión. Al principio, él no se lo puede creer. Después, acepta que el destino lo ha traído hasta aquí. Está impaciente por ver a su hijo. Llamamos al timbre, pero no responde nadie. –¿Julia? ¿Armando? ¿Hay alguien? No responde nadie. Le explico que mi hermana y yo nos estamos quedando en el apartamento. Añado que Armando y Julia deberían volver pronto. Saco mi llave y abro la puerta. El hombre me pregunta: –¿Dónde están? –No lo sé. Entro en la habitación de Armando y abro mi mochila. En la mochila tengo mi cargador del móvil. Mi móvil se carga durante 15 minutos, y por fin puedo llamar a mi hermana. El teléfono suena tres veces y Julia responde: –¡Daniel! ¡Por fin! ¡Estaba muy preocupada! –Hola, hermana. Estoy bien. Estoy con un señor en el apartamento de Armando.

–¿Un señor? –Sí, es una larga historia. Ven al apartamento, Julia. ¿Dónde estás? –Hablé con mamá esta mañana. Me dijo lo que ocurrió. ¡Armando y yo estuvimos esperando por ti toda la noche! Hemos salido a comer. Ahora volvemos a casa. –Os esperamos aquí. Media hora después, Armando y Julia entran en el apartamento. –¡Hola, Daniel!¡Qué alegría verte!–dice Armando. –¿Quién es usted? –le dice Armando al hombre. Antes de que él responda, yo le digo: –Verás, Armando. Tengo algo importante que contarte. –¿Qué es lo que ocurre? –Armando, este es tu padre. Armando se sorprende muchísimo. –¿Mi padre? ¡No es posible! El hombre mayor le habla: –¿Tú eres Armando? –Sí, soy yo. ¡No es posible que usted sea mi padre! –Me llamo Antonio Sotomonte. Sí, soy tu padre. Armando se da cuenta de que es verdaderamente su padre y lo abraza. Por fin se conocen después de tantos años. Antonio ha estado fuera de casa durante toda su vida. No saben qué hacer. Finalmente, Armando sonríe y dice: –¡Esto habría que celebrarlo! –¡Estoy de acuerdo! –dice su padre Antonio. –¿Vamos a La Paella Loca? –dice Julia.

Yo respondo: –¡No quiero paella! ¡No quiero comerla nunca más! ¡Ni quiero acercarme a ese restaurante! ¡Ni quiero viajar en autobús durante un tiempo! ¡Quiero una pizza!
