Doubt about German

From “Die Waffen nieder!” by Suttner, Bertha:

“Wir waren die ganze Nacht aufgeblieben. Nicht eine Minute des uns noch gebliebenen Zusammenseins hatten wir verlieren wollen.”

Why isn’t it “gewollt” instead of “wollen”? (hatten… gewollt)

I can’t explain you why but the sentence is correct.

This is a case of Double Infinitive, very common in German. You can read more here: The double infinitive in German | coLanguage

Er hat das Spiel absichtlich verlieren wollen.

Hope this helps and I’m not too far of the mark. Otherways a clarification is welcomed.
