Russian Conversation Meetup
Hello, I plan to join starting today (December 14th). I hope I get the time difference right ;-)
Good day everyone. Form now onwards we will use the following Zoom link for joining weekly Russian meetups.
This link doesn't exist anymore?
See at the top where it says the meetup is discontinued. That's a pity, but one can't complain if it's free.
FWIW the book whose title I mangled badly in the most recent conversation is: Pavel Florensky, The Pillar and Ground of Truth: An Essay in Orthodox Theodicy in Twelve Letters. Trans. Boris Jakim. Princeton University Press, 1997.
I'd like to join, but I don't understand how it works. I see a web address , Meeting ID, Passcode , but I also see a series of phone nummers ("One tape mobile"). Where can I find information on what I should exactly do?
I participated earlier in a zoom meeting, there I just clicked on a webaddress.
And will there be a person who leads the conversation?
You click on the link above labeled "Join Zoom Meeting". Copy in the passcode when prompted. You won't need the meeting ID because it's embedded in the url. That should be all you need to do. If you've successfully used Zoom on your computer before, then I would expect it to work okay for you for this.
All that information with phone numbers and ID is generated by Zoom when creating a meeting, and can be a bit confusing. I assume the phone #s are for joining voice-only without a computer, but I've never tried that. You'd probably have to key in the meeting number in addition to the passcode if calling in on one of those numbers.
Hope you can make it to the next sesssion!
OK, thanks, khardy!
Keen on joining but can I know how advanced this meet up will be? I've yet to have any experience conversing with others...
Hey. No worries. Feel free to join to be a listener only. No one is forced to speak at the meetup.
Since my connection with this thread is no longer possible from my regular account, I made this new account and will use it until my other acoount is reconnected. --- Frits
An idea I had re Gulag was perhaps to look at a story by Shalamov from _Kolyma Tales_. The Solzhenitsyn is *huge*. But in general things like dachas are more pleasant to chat about than the Gulag is. :-)
Hi I have been busy but I tried to write to you last week but I dont know if you got oit. . Are there any themes posted for t'this uesday?
Hi i will try to again. See you
I tried to answer, did you get it? Concerning tuesday are there any thems chosen? I would agree on Gulag if this is appropriate. See you
Maybe in honor of Anders we could chat sometime about the Rus'. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rus%27_people The movie "The 13th Warrior" has Vikings deep in Russia.
[The movie is not to be taken as historically accurate, even in details. An important point of the movie is that the Vikings are new to the idea of written language, but actually the peoples of northern Europe had been using runes for centuries and centuries before the time the movie is set in. The protagonist is a Muslim, from a highly developed urban culture, hence late in the first millennium CE. But the images in the movie of Vikings on a river in a Russia-like place are well done.]
I will join.
I have to apologize. It's my fault. Now you are aware of the fact Russians are not that familiar with Eastern time zone. I have simply messed up the time.
However, I'll be pleased to make amends tomorrow the same time 10-00 am Eastern time (6 pm Moscow time) if you kindly let me to do so.
What would you say?
I can make it then. To confirm, 10:00 a.m. EST is UTC-5.
I assume the remaining regularly scheduled Tuesday morning sessions are set to go.
Great. That's right. The remaining sessions are set to go on following Tuesdays.
The zoom link is still the same.
OK, tomorrow is possible for me. So that will be:
10:00 New York | 15:00 London | 16:00 Amsterdam | 18:00 Moscow
The zoom link is still the same.
zoom link did not work
Zoom link doesn't work? I can't get in.
I also am unable to connect/enter: "Please wait for the host to start this meeting."
Same. I'm going to leave the app running, but I don't hold much hope for this session as it's already 20 minutes over. :'(
HI Yes I would like to participate in the converstion group by zoom
I'll join in starting the 30th, but I can't attend the first one.
