Is there anyway to have more control on how lessons are imported?

I accept that the limit is 4000 words but can I at least specify how that is broken down? I imported a 4120 word article, and it was split into 3 parts, with a very short 3rd part.

If I import books can I specify chapter breaks, etc?

Has anyone made any 3rd party tools that allow this?

Sorry, but you can’t really control that if you are importing book through Import eBook option.
However, you are free to edit lessons later and make changes if you want. You can simple cut-paste a part of text from one lesson and move it to another if you prefer.

Your source document will contain hidden markups that specify to place this string of characters here, insert a blank line there, make that string of characters bold-face, etc., but there is no markup that the Lingq software can take as a reliable signal that a new section or chapter has begun. It’s obvious to your eyes and mind, but very ambiguous to the software. There are markup languages that do specify such things, but web pages and PDFs and .docx do not. (Speaking as someone familiar with document formats and with programming, not as someone with any insight to or connection to the Lingq team.) Knowing how complex and busy many web page layouts are, I’m impressed that Lingq is usually successful in extracting the main content.

BTW, I also prefer books, e.g., to be imported as one chapter per lesson or set of lessons. It takes a bit of extra work to do that by manual copy+paste, but it’s often worth my effort.

I do it manually too, but it would be so much easier if you could specify a break after X number of words or when it encounters a specific tag in the document. Also, most epubs are actually zip files of multiple html documents, which are often a separate html file per chapter. And if not you can easily do it that way in Calibre. Having the ability to break lessons in the same way would be a godsend.

I wasn’t thinking of epub, but you’re right about the multiple zipped files, and having at least the option to make a lesson of each would be a great enhancement.
