1 million words read

Hi all,

I’ve just hit a landmark here on Lingq - 1 million words read in Spanish! I know close to 30k words/‘word forms’ and have passed the B1 exam with DELE.

If anyone has any book recommendations then please let me know!

Cheers.

Reg. book recommendations:
Arturo Perez-Reverte is interesting in this context (“Club Dumas”, “Sidi”, etc.).

¡Enhorabuena!

Great job!

Wow, that is great! How long did it take you to reach this milestone?

Where do you find out how many words you’ve read on Lingq? Does this figure include imported, private lessons?

more or less 2yrs starting from scratch.

If you go to your statistics you can change it to ‘all time’ , there it shows you how many words you’ve read (that includes your imported lessons - which I’ve used somewhat exclusively).

Hello sir! Congratulations! I was so wowed when I hit one million and I felt really confident in my reading when I hit around 1.5 million. I think it was at that point that I also started watching Netflix with Spanish subtitles so I could let me listening comprehension really “catch up” to my reading. However, you don’t need to wait since we can now import subtitles to read too! I’ve been slowly importing them over now that we have that feature and I just realized I’m at 4.2 million and going strong!

Anyway, I’ve attached a list of books that I read during and after that time. I recently put this in another forum. I’ve also wanted to read “El Bosque Originario” which Master Steve says was his first book in Spanish, as well as “100 Years of Solitude” (see below). Of the ones I listed below, I have everything but Sobmbra imported already. If you pick one of those, feel free to let me know and I will figure out how to share the private imported lessons with you. However, I do not have audio for anything. Otherwise, they’d be in the LingQ library.

…Also, I’ve often thought about taking a DELE. Any insights and progress reports. would be appreciated.

BOOKS (to read in LingQ):

“La Reina del Sur” (it was originally a novel before the show and I read it when I was in the 20K range. “The Way of the Linguist” by Steve Kaufmann. Lots of intermediate vocan and I’ve read it several times.

“La Sombra del Viento” by Carlos Ruiz Zaffon. I read a few chapters to test myself to see if I could read unassisted and it seems like a great story. I may import and read.

I imported this because I was given a hard copy to read by my high school Spanish teacher as it was one of the first books he ever read. I wanted to save it until I knew Spanish well enough to read unassisted, but that was taking too long and had some esoteric vocab. I didn’t want to wait so I imported it. It’s a short book so it might be worth it. In the future, I’ll probably import his most famous “Cien Años de Soledad.” It is THE modern novel in Spanish and I’ll probably read it at some point. If I hadn’t already read so much and wasn’t this close to my goals, I would have do it already.

“La Rebelion de las Masas” by Ortega y Gasset. Harder philosophical/politicalbook and little dry. I wanted to read it because William F. Buckley had mentioned it once.

Felicidades!

Buena suerte!

Editado.

Cien Años de Soledad is the next one in my import list!

Good luck with that! I’ve been told it’s a brilliant book.
