Is it okay to

Hi! I’d like to ask all you native English speakers out there. The thing is that I really like the way one video-game character speaks (see examples below). So I wanna know would it be off if I were talking like him? I mean, not exactly the same but similar in a way. I find it very beautiful even though the manner is very bizzare. I dunno. So yeah, feel free to share your thoughts. I’m not sure that it’s gonna get any attention, however.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Wringing me out. Wrought right and rigid. Can’t relax. Can’t release…

Small fears, too small to shape the Fade themselves. Clinging to the Nightmare. Feeding on the bits it leaves behind.

It sounds different. The water changes the song.

It’s quiet. They like the quiet.

Even dwarves don’t really remember the dwarves.

I like trees. Trees don’t hurt people.

If you listen, you can hear it all reaching for the sun.

A rock could roll for a long time here.

There she is. It was like going to sleep.

It sings… sick music.

Too many people hurting, harming, hacking open a hole for the demons to pour in.

This is a sad place, filled with old pain. People spoke here, and something listened, until it didn’t.

They didn’t get to say goodbye.

Breath painful, stabbing, and then real stabbing, lungs full, frothing, scent of apples as it all goes black.

I just love Cole he’s lovely.
“He writes words that aren’t real, but they are for him, in a quiet place whose stone shape shakes the ground.”

That’s what I’ve come up with

“Been dreaming. Dreams… they make me forget. They help. Relieving, like the pill when you’re hurt, but the ease does not stay. It leaves you soon can’t even get hold of it.”

I guess, I’m a weirdo.

Cole from Dragon Age? If so, more human or more spirit?

More human. It seems like he’s glad to become like us despite all the bad things that go along with being a man.

Found this somewhere
“According to Patrick Weekes, there is no “win” option in his quest, as either choice has positive and negative aspects. As a spirit, Cole is happier and more at peace, and yet losing parts of himself; if more human, he is less happy but far more relatable. This was done to demonstrate that there is no right or wrong decision.”

Sir, you write english very well, does this not require the emulation of James Norton’s received pronunciation? I fear that without this extremely british accent one would sound like a rambling foreigner and not at all like a mage/seer type game character. Imagine that only 100 people know Yoda, they all talk like him and you meet one. What do you think?

Oh, really? Thank you very much. Well, I never really thought about it: I don’t speak English. I’ve nobody to talk to, you see. I’m not exactly a lone wolf, but it’s better that I do not engage in speaking much; good for other people.)

I was only considering what it would sound like and whether it would achieve the effect you were aiming for, in your writing I think it’s fine, you aren’t making errors so it becomes clear something quirky is afoot. You should speak English, read articles aloud in preparation to unleash yourself upon us!

To be frank, I did not expect any responses whatsoever. I’m thankful to all of you for sharing your thoughts on the subject. No, really. I deeply appreciate that. Thanks.

Also, when it comes to the accents I’d like to attain an american one, I guess. You never know.

I aspire to an accent like this. I can only dream about sounding as beautiful one day.

LMAO, you can get that by drinking razor blades laced with hemlock, or did you mean the Governator Impersonator ? I like to think to think you speak a little like Christoph Waltz.

Which one is real?

It’s hard to really hear your own accent.

But you might be right. I may sound highly dubious and slimy.

I practice every day an hour this video, because I a good pronunciation have would like. Alles steht heute unter dem Motto Wadde hadde dudde da? - Official Musikvideo - TV total - YouTube

I’ve never seen ‘German comedy’ that wasn’t crude, over-the-top, slapstick goofiness. Stefan Raab is a prime example. The only two comedians who rise ever so slightly above the very low standard are Michael Mittermeier and Michael Bully Herbig, incidentally Bavarians. Admittedly Austrian comedians also generally suffer compared to the high standards of the long-standing Anglo/American tradition trained by satire and sitcoms.

Hey
What happens when a blonde leaves Austria and enters Germany?

The average iq in both countries rises.

He needs to get off Rosetta Stone and on lingQ.

This quest was a mind messer for me. Gone back & forth between the choices for a long while before settling on more human, kept asking myself “Why is this better? Why do you feel this is right?” until I exhausted all of my feelings on both of the choices and felt I was truly doing the right thing. Man, this was a tough choice, I can’t remember any that plagued me this much. :stuck_out_tongue:

What I think truly changed my mind is the nature of Cole’s help of being unseen and forgotten. It unnervingly reminds of mind-rape. Sure, from an objective standpoint it is for good, but the people he gives the ideas to think it’s themselves, while it’s another being guiding their fate, even if it’s something they want. Can’t help but feel they should go through the troubles for their happiness, just as Cole as a human would while trying to help others feeling less effective. Who knows, they might even detest the help if they ever were to find out the idea wasn’t theirs in the first place, I know I would feel uneasy knowing my fate was manipulated by another being, even if it was for my own good.

The whole trying again if he messes up while wiping someone of their memory feels somehow morally wrong too. Dunno, I remembered the first time I got introduced to Cole’s powers when I got the quest and this affected my choice in the matter a great deal. Also, Cole feels like he’s stuck on a loop, like a robot programmed for other people’s feelings when he’s a spirit. Being humanlike may feel more selfish, but staying a spirit seems so sad to me because he will never be given credit, never remembered, even if he’s okay with that. He’s extraordinary and no one will ever know.

Well that was some talking myself to accepting my choice I assume. :stuck_out_tongue: Well I could go on about how being Spirit-like has a lot of admirable qualities to it too but it’s already long enough, so I’ll end it here.

Arguably your parents manipulated each other into producing you, thereby manipulating you into cell division and arriving at this inexplicable existence and consciousness, arguably for your own good.

It makes many of us uneasy

I don’t agree with Harris on free will btw, but he’s been predetermined to be the best hub of the discussion. For now I’m more with semipredetermined Dennett, defiant Peterson and completely in-control Molyneux, but maybe I was predetermined to?

As for the video game debate, or whatever it is, I can only say one thing:

Just teasing, guys
One love

I felt this way, too. But the biggest thing that made me choose the human option is feeling sorry for Cole. I mean, he wants to be like one of us and you can notice that. Saying that may not be bery admissible, but I can’t comprehend how people could deprive Cole of it… I just don’t get it. Anyway, I still don’t know how happy he is with being human-like, at the same time I’d like to assume that he’ll do well at the end of the day.

Didn’t expect to find any Dragon Age fans here. Cool!

Most of what is going on with this character is either a literary device called alliteration or rhetorical devices involving the repetition of the same word or words.

“Dark spruce forest frowned on either side the frozen waterway. The trees had been stripped by a recent wind of their white covering of frost, and they seemed to lean toward each other, black and ominous, in the fading light. A vast silence reigned over the land. The land itself was a desolation, lifeless, without movement, so lone and cold that the spirit of it was not even that of sadness. There was a hint in it of laughter, but of a laughter more terrible than any sadness – a laughter that was mirthless as the smile of the Sphinx, a laughter cold as the frost and partaking of the grimness of infallibility.” — White Fang by Jack London
