Recently worked with a lot of subjunctive in Spanish and after watching “lightspeed Spanish” at youtube I am finally getting it. However, I still have some questions about it and need to work on it. Regarding this post I just want to know the meaning of the word “consiguiera” can you translate that over to he/she/it would get? I am wondering because I am marking these verbs as conjunctive and I don´t wanna confuse myself by putting the wrong translation on them. If you would not use this translation(He/she/it would get) then what should I translate it as?
It could be “would get,” but many subjective translations are dependent on the context.
I also don’t know what it means to make a verb “conjunctive.”
“consiguiera” is a past form of the subjuntive.
In Spanish sometimes the subjuntive is compulsory. If you are talking in present, you use the present of subjuntive; if you are talking about the past, you use the past of the subjuntive.
For example:
Quiero que mi hijo consiga sus objetivos (I want it now)
Quería que mi hijo consiguiera sus objetivos (I wanted it in the past)
