DO NOT UPDATE YOUR iOS APP! - The latest LingQ iOS app is completely broken

Hi there,

I’m a full time student of Chinese and I use LingQ as my primary platform.

I updated the app today hoping for Dark Mode support, but instead of getting Dark Mode support, I got a bug that is very frustrating:

It is now impossible to make LingQs through the iOS app.

Video demonstration: - YouTube

I went through a lesson with 24 unknown words only to find that after I had made a LingQ for every word, I actually had no LingQs created for the day but instead had 24 more known words added to my known word count.

Sure enough, if I check on the actual website, the LingQs do not exist but I am able to reverse this action and make them LingQs by clicking on the “known” words and lowering their status.

It seems what has happened is that the iOS app no longer makes LingQs.

Please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help solve this bug.

LingQ, also feel free to message me directly or ask for my phone number if you want to chat over the phone because I’d love to get this issue resolved as soon as possible.

Thank you!

P.S. to disable automatic updates on iOS:

  1. Go to your device’s settings app
  2. Go to “iTunes & App Store”
  3. Turn off the “App Updates” toggle under the “Automatic Downloads” section

@Edwin Have you tried to reinstall the app?

@EdwinFinch, would you please email us via the app so we can check out your logs? Settings → App → Feedback → Email Support. We think we have a handle on what’s causing the issue and your logs can help us confirm.

One of the log files was over 100MB so I sent it using MailDrop (it should send a link to the log that you can download).

Please let me know if you would still like me to reinstall the app or not. I don’t want to lose any precious data you guys might need from me.

Thank you for your quick response to this issue!

Thanks Edwin, much appreciated.
Please reinstall and let us know if that makes any difference.

Reinstalling fixed it, thank you! I can now create LingQs on my iPad, and they display on the website as well.

Not an optimal solution but better than nothing in the meantime
