Accidently completed lesson without reading it

Alright, so I accidently completed a lesson which gave me 150 new words. How do I undo that?

If I go into vocabulary and sort by “creation date” those words don’t appear for me to analyse and resolve. If I search for words by lesson, not all the words appear. Some of the words marked as known are English words.

How do I reverse this mistake?

You have to read through the lesson again and manually turn all those Known Words to either lingQs or ‘ignore’. There’s no other way. Words that go straight from New Word → Known without being lingQed don’t show up in your Vocabulary.

@blackwindzero That happened to me too. It’s annoying. nefera’s advice is correct.

I recommend unchecking the following setting to avoid this in the future:

Settings/App Settings/Reader/General/Paging moves to known

IMO this should be off by default.

Ahh dangit, that sux. Pretty frustrating.

Cheers guys.

Haha mine is off but it still happened. So many issues with Linq lately…

I rather wish they would stop adding features and start bulletproofing the existing app – across all platforms.

I think there has been some recent company changes in an attempt to reduce the amount of bugs and speed up bug-fixing. For instance, releases are usually on Monday these days. Also, if you look at the LingQ About page, you will see they also hired another QA.

Paging lessons automatically moves all remaining blue words on that page to known. We assume you have created LingQs for all unknown words before paging.

Automatic removal of blue words can be turned off in the Settings for the Reader. The “Move words to known” option is the one to turn off. However, this just means that when you click the complete Lesson option on the last page, all your blue words for the whole lesson will be moved to known. There is no reason to keep blue words. The idea is that you either need to learn them or they are known. (or you can ignore words).

Having said that, you can click on all white words to make them blue again and create LingQs for them. So, if you are reading, and come across a word you incorrectly marked as known or ignored, just click on it to make it blue.

Finally, you can reset your language in your Language Settings - Login - LingQ

Hope this helps!

There’s two problems with these solutions. First, one lesson gave me 150 words. Tediously clicking each one to figure out if I knew it or not would be counter productive.

The second, the psychological attachment one has to their streak, words learnt, data over the time one has accumilated is not resolved by reseting the language. It makes sense that those blue words don’t move to known and is added to your vocab, but then whats the point of counting words known if already known words aren’t counted?

Lets say I reset the language, skip all the blue words. Wouldn’t that mean I’m a “beginner” and I spend hours skipping blue words, since the app suggests that I need to know a certain amount of words to look for a particular kind of lesson?

I’m assuming those words are accumulated in the data. Hmmm kinda makes me wonder if I should reset my data every so often. I still want to keep my previous data though, so I could see my performance and stuff. Is there a way I can export those graphs and stuff before I reset?

Also, do you think having a feature where you can turn all the words in a lesson to blue? Like just that one lesson. So instead of nukeing the whole language, I can nuke a just that one lesson and work on it from there. Its much easier to click blue words than known words.

We’ll see what we can do. At the moment it’s not possible to reset one specific lesson only.
Regarding exporting, you can only export your LingQs (saved words) from the Vocabulary page.
