How ChatGPT Works Technically For Beginners

It’s good to know what we’re confronted with:

An interesting thing to ponder upon is that Artificial Neural Networks are powerful averagers of whatever data they’re fed to process. Things tend to average on their own in human culture, not ot mention in globalized human culture with the help of the Internet.

But it usually takes some time, enough for local clusters, where new ideas or their representations are prouced, to generate something deviant (in a good sens or not :). To then average and adopt those deviant ideas or their representations back into mass culture, or simply just filter them out as impractical.

Now people are eager to learn from the averagest averager and it feels nice. It is (almost  infinitely patient, fast and so on. But what toll is this “simple tool of education” gonna take on our society in the long run?

"But what toll is this “simple tool of education " gonna take on our society in the long run?”

As soon as AI becomes a leading medium (like the print medium and electronic media, esp. radio, TV, computer networks 1.0 / 2.0) before, there will be another “societal information shock”.
See: “Niklas Luhmann in the Society of the Computer”

However, in contrast to these older leading media techologies, the “age of Homo Sapiens” might be over this time because AI can evolve in a turbo-like manner.

Everyting seems possible at this moment of societal bifurcation:

  • Singularity
  • Fusion of Homo Sapiens + AI (our interfaces are still way too primitive. A mind-computer-interface would be much more efficient).
  • “Homo Deus” as a fusion of genetically plus AI enhanced humans.
  • a massive wave of unemployment so that our systems of social protection (health, old age, etc.) will collapse

etc.

The increasing pace of IT is both fascinating and scary. But, ok, I’m a kind of “hyperautomate or die” person (at least in business process mgm.). But this hyperautomation trend is no longer restricted to organizations…

The current development reminds me of Walter Benjamin’s “Angel of History”:

“A Klee painting named Angelus Novus shows an angel looking as though he is about to move away from something he is fixedly contemplating. His eyes are staring, his mouth is open, his wings are spread. This is how one pictures the angel of history. His face is turned toward the past. Where we perceive a chain of events, he sees one single catastrophe which keeps piling wreckage upon wreckage and hurls it in front of his feet. The angel would like to stay, awaken the dead, and make whole what has been smashed. But a storm is blowing from Paradise; it has got caught in his wings with such violence that the angel can no longer close them. The storm irresistibly propels him into the future to which his back is turned, while the pile of debris before him grows skyward. This storm is what we call progress.”

Nice picture!
Shall we establish humanoid trade unions and protest against progress? We’ll call it Nonsensical Revolution!
STOP BEING SMART. DON’T BE LIKE A MACHINE.
YOU’RE NOT STUPID! YOU’RE JUST ALIVE, THAT’S WHY!
LET’S FOOL AROUND. THEY CAN’T BEAT US AT THIS EVER.
AI SUCKS! HUMANITY ROCKS!

well, you’re always in the Matrix - even if you think you’re against the Matrix (that’s usually true for society as an encompassing social system).
Humans just like to have a feeling of control - even if it’s imaginary.

Maybe we can revive “Dada”:
“Re-Dada, homines sapientes! Not re-data, homines dei!”

GPT-4 is announced. Hoomans will be destroyed!

Doulingo have integrated GPT-4 in their app as a conversational bot
“We wanted AI-powered features that were deeply integrated into the app and leveraged the gamified aspect of Duolingo that our learners love,” says Bodge.”

Developer demo starts in 58 minutes

And GPT-5 is already in the development.

Yeah, I got an invitation as well - but my sis wants me to work on her Word templates now. So no GPT-4 for poor little me at the moment :frowning:
