How to decipher letters

Today I started informing me about learning persian and the persian alphabet. I looked at the first mini story here in lingq and tried to decipher the letters, but wasn’t able. For example I couldn’t find the first letter of this word: آشپز
Do you have some recommendations how to look the letters up?

Hi flexitsch, this word is read as “Aashpaz”. I don’t quite understand what you mean. do you mean you want to learn the alphabet?

Hello,

thank you for you’re answer.

I want to learn the language and tried to start. In that moment I tried to start with the mini stories. I didn’t know neither persian nor the alphabet. So I tried to look up each letter. I wrote it down in three versions: the persian words with the persian alphabet, the persian words with the latin alphabet and the german translation. But after a few words I stopped, because I wasn’t able to discover the letters from the mini stories in the alphabet. In that moment I asked here.

After that I tried to find an app to learn the persian alphabet first. I tried various, but wasn’t able to find a good one. In Duolingo you can’t learn persian, but arabic. In the arabic section of Duolingo they have a special area to learn the alphabet. I searched the differences between the arabic and the persian alphabet and found that there are a few additional letters in persian and few that are pronounced differently. As there are only a few differences and I didn’t find another option, I started learning the arabic alphabet in Duolingo. I hope, I can advance in this way. And I hope, it’s no mistake, because my goal (for the moment) is to learn persian, not arabic.

I’d appreciate if someone has an advice.

I hope my english isn’t too bad and you can understand what I want too say. I didn’t use english in years… And sorry for the long text.

Hello,

if you’re learning Chinese here on Lingq, you have the pinyin (Chinese characters written with latin letters) beneath the words. Is there a similar function (to show the words with latin letters beneath) for Persian too?

no currently we don’t have transliteration for Persian, unfortunately.

Hi, I think this playlist can help you with alphabet and more if you want to start learning the alphabet:

yes Arabic alphabet can help but can be confusing as well for you as a new learner because of different pronunciations. My suggestion is learning the Persian ones, you can search آموزش الفبای فارسی and find many YouTube videos.

hope this helps,
sahra
