But you should be aware that this novel was written in 1901 and much of the language is terribly outdated from today’s Dutch. The level should be labeled ‘ouderwets’ instead of ‘gevorderd.’
You would do yourself a great service to find something more contemporary from which to learn Dutch than to be reading Louis Couperus. Unless, that is, you want to go around sounding like someone out of the late 19th century. No one goes around saying things like “Dat is waarlijk allerliefst van je!” anymore.
