Conversazioni fra Sabina e Michele, LingQ e le lingue

LingQ e le lingue

Sabina: Ciao, Michele!

Michele: Ciao, Sabina!

Come va?

S. Bene, bene. E te?

M. Anch'io abbastanza bene, grazie. S. Benissimo!

M. Cosa vuol dire: “sto mettendo a punto, diciamo”?

M. A-ah. E come è andata?

S. Eh, sì, tipo indovinelli, no? S. Va bene, allora sei perdonato. M. Uhm. S. … in contatto… M. … aggiornati, perché prossimamente faremo delle altre lezioni. S. Questo, sicuramente!

M. Benissimo! Ciao, a presto! S. Ciao, ciao!

Sabina: Ciao, Michele! Sabina: Hi, Michele! Sabina: Bonjour Michele!

Michele: Ciao, Sabina! Michele: Hi, Sabina!

Come va? How are you?

S. Bene, bene. S. Good, good. E te? And you? E você?

M. Anch'io abbastanza bene, grazie. Me too well, thank you. S. Benissimo! Very well! Allora, cosa facciamo questa sera di bello? Also, was machen wir heute Abend? So, what are we doing tonight? Så hva gjør vi i kveld? Então, o que vamos fazer esta noite? Una bella conversazione io e te! A good conversation, you and me!

Yes, tonight we do the first conversation of a series - which we hope will become longer - of lessons for our Italian students on LingQ. S. Bello! Beautiful! Mi piace questa cosa! Ich liebe dieses Ding! I like this thing! I hope our Italian students are enthusiastic then to hear each other about everyday things.

Yes, and then we'll talk in one ... in an accent ... normal, of everyday life, not ... we will not do lessons like those actors who make the LingQ podcast, who speak in such a standard Italian that it does not exist anywhere , in no city. S. Infatti, noi parliamo come… proprio come parliamo tutti i giorni a casa nostra, con i nostri amici… In fact, we talk like ... just as we talk every day to our house, with our friends ... S. ... with the people around us, so we hope to meet the needs of our students as well. M. Yes, which in fact has been asking for "natural" lessons at a normal pace for a long time, rather than the usual lessons made especially for students, who usually speak more slowly, with easier language. We will do normal conversations and then transcribe them.

S. Benissimo. Very well. Ma tu come hai scoperto LingQ? But how did you discover LingQ? Men hvordan oppdaget du LingQ?

I found it in June 2010 thanks to my Indian correspondent who, knowing that I have this great passion for languages, showed me a website - TheLinguist.com - where she had read the book by Steve Kaufmann, who is the founder of method used on LingQ, and who wrote, in fact, this book in which he speaks of his life as a self-taught polyglot and explains the method he uses to learn languages. And then I saw that on this site, TheLinguist, there was a link to subscribe to the site, which has just this name, LingQ ...

S. Che bel giro di parole: link su LingQ! S. Was für eine nette Wendung: Link auf LingQ! What a round of words: link on LingQ! S. For en fin uttrykk: lenke på LingQ! (v. nota 1) (see note 1) (se note 1)

M. Giusto, sì. Right, yes. And on this site you can learn many languages. Among other things, now, for some months now they have started to add at least one new language every month and so there will always be more languages available for, hopefully, an ever-increasing number of students.

How nice, though! A me piacciono tantissimo le lingue. Ich mag Sprachen wirklich. I really like languages. I started to learn Spanish on LingQ, which I met almost by chance, navigating on the web like that, like we say, without a precise goal.

Oh yes? S. Sì, e… ci son cascata dentro. S. Ja, und ... ich bin reingefallen. Yes, and ... And so, turn around here, turn away, a bit 'of curiosity, you know how it is, when you find a new site, open it: open this, open that, look up, look down, and I was thrilled and I started with the Spanish, since it was a long time since I was thinking about learning it, but I had never ... decided to go to school. I found LingQ who gave me a hand and now I'm learning, a bit 'at a time, even Spanish, in addition to English, um ... I'm fine-tuning, let's say.

M. Cosa vuol dire: “sto mettendo a punto, diciamo”? Lehrer: Was bedeutet das: "Ich bin Feinabstimmung, sagen wir mal"? What does it mean: "I'm fine-tuning, let's say"? Because I had already studied English at school, but then you know that you do not use it so much and then you forget a little bit, and to refresh it I found some nice things to read, to study, from ... new words to learn ... and then, as you said, I too have opened a lot of lessons from Steve, who talk about how to use this method, how to learn languages like children do, so, yes, it excites me a lot, I like it and it really excites me so much. M. Ah, bene. Ah well. S. E adesso, sai cosa ti dico? S. Und jetzt, weißt du was ich dir sage? And now, you know what I tell you? Was ich gerne mache… was ich gerne mehr machen würde, ist Tutorin für italienische Studenten zu werden. The thing I like to do ... I would like to do more is to become a tutor for Italian students.

Ah, yes, so I steal those few students there are, eheheh ... S. Eh, okay, gut, komm schon! Eh, okay, in short, give! S. Eh, d'accord, eh bien, allez ! S. Eh, ok, vel, kom igjen! Cosa vuoi farci! Was kannst du tun? What do you want to do with it! One or the other will sometimes ask to be helped, no?

M. Yes ... S. E allora, dài! S. Na dann, komm schon! S. So, come on! But the bad thing is that there are already very few paying students on LingQ ... ... in fact, again the last time I spoke with Steve, several months ago, he explained to me that about 1% of the members of LingQ is a paying member ... And how did it go? It did not go wrong, give! How to ride a bike: even if you do not go there for a long time, a bit 'go and then take the ... the way. S. Ecco. A-ah, yes. Here it is. Anyway, give, I'm really excited about this site. Lo ...

M. A-ah. Sì, hai ragione. I would ... suggest it to all language lovers, really!

Yes you are right. È vero. Although, however, this site presupposes a certain autonomy on the part of the student that unfortunately many ... above all many young people who go to school today have no more, because they are so used to being told what they have to do, how they must learn languages , who can no longer reason with their head, form their own method of study and learning.

It's true. S. Uh-uh. So there are so many who register on LingQ, also many people whom I have shown myself LingQ ...

I want to use it too! ", Then maybe they try it, they say" Oh, yes, beautiful! ", But then, after a couple of lessons, especially when they exhaust the limit of the LingQ, these terminology cards, free, which are a hundred ... However, in short, they will also be free, but I have not found the quality of the LingQ texts and also of the LingQ tutors on other sites.

... at the moment when they have to decide if they want to update their ... their registration, so many get tired because, especially today, in this age of internet, there is this belief a bit 'insane, in my opinion, according to which all that's on the internet it should be free ... We should think, instead, that behind what we find in the library, in the library, rather than in the various steps we do, is ... it is the work of people and who is of us ... who is of us who would like to work for free?

M. Nessuno! ... and so they say "But there are many other sites, like LiveMocha, or others, that are free". M. Aucun ! However, in short, they will also be free, but the quality of the texts of LingQ and also of LingQ tutors have not found it on other sites.

S. Questo è verissimo, è proprio vero, perché anch'io ho avuto modo di sperimentare queste tipe… questi tipi di situazione. It's true, you're right. We should think, instead, that behind what we find in the library, in the library, rather than in the various steps we make, is ... it is the result of the work of people and who is that of us ... who of us who would work for free? And then, these people who say "Ah, but not ... I do not have to pay ten dollars a month for something on the internet, when there are many other resources on the internet" are the same people who then pay maybe fifty dollars a month for take an English course at the British Institute or a Spanish course at Cervantes, or so on.

This is very true, it's really true, because I've had the chance to experiment with these types ... these kinds of situations. Uhm, yes, because they believe that fifty dollars spent in a language school are a better investment than ten dollars spent for not even having a professor, as if the professor was a guarantee of success. M. Sì. S. Proprio brutta questa si… questa situazione. Lehrer Ja Lehrer Das ist wirklich schlimm ... diese Situation. In fact, it is not so, because, if you do not study, there is little teacher that holds or book that holds! (see note 2) You must put the effort and point. And if the professor is good, it is a great help, but if the professor is poor, he can even hate the language he is teaching, as it happened, for example, to me, that I had a very high school teacher in English poor that instead of teaching us, he talked about his family life, then when he explained the various tenses, he explained them in a much more complicated way than they would have been and so, at the end of the three years of middle school, I did not know how to conversation or write a letter in English. Wow, it's bad, though, eh?

M. Yes, except when you have five hundred blue words in a lesson, that is words that, according to the system, you do not know, and you have to do for all of them a LingQ ... S. Eheheh! This is really bad ... this situation. M. … è un po' noioso, a volte. And in French, which I studied in the same years as English, after three years of middle school, I knew how to write and speak very well. Eh, it's true. And then, on the other hand, you find these LingQs that bring you a different enthusiasm again!

S. Eh, sì, tipo indovinelli, no? Lehrer: Ah ja? S. Eh ja, wie Rätsel, nein? Yes, except when you have five hundred blue words in a lesson, that is words that, according to the system, you do not know, and you have to do for all a LingQ ... M. Ah, oui ? ... it's a bit boring sometimes. S. Eheh, mais c'est une farce ! M. Ma lo faccio in modo onesto. Lehrer: Aber ich mache es ehrlich. It goes well, however, with a little 'of fatigue ..., it is true that it is a bit' boring, maybe at first a little 'laborious, but then you make us a habit and becomes ... a game. M. Men jeg gjør det ærlig. S. Va bene, allora sei perdonato. S. Okay, dir ist vergeben. Then, I really like to do the cards of LingQ and cloze test, because so ... um ... they give me the feeling of knowing it better, my tongue! S. Ok, så er du tilgitt. M. Uhm. Oh yes? Oh yes, like riddles, right? M. Terminiamo qua, però ci raccomandiamo di restare… Ah, I'm a bit lazier and ... I do not do the cards so often, but sometimes I go to the Vocabulary page and look at all the words I've written, and I see if there are any I already know, then I raise the level, so when I get to 4, they no longer appear in yellow but only underline, so they count as words I know and ... my statistic goes up, so I seem to know more polish than I know. M. La oss fullføre her, men vi anbefaler at du blir ... S. … in contatto… Eheh, but this is a mischief, though! S. ... i kontakt ... M. … aggiornati, perché prossimamente faremo delle altre lezioni. But I do it honestly. M.… mis à jour, car nous ferons d'autres cours bientôt. M. ... oppdatert, fordi vi snart vil gjøre andre leksjoner. S. Questo, sicuramente! All right, then you're forgiven. S. Dette, helt sikkert! We also wrote it in the forum that we promised very lively, very real lessons, and therefore we must keep our promises.

Ok, what are you saying, let's finish ... do we finish this lesson for our students tonight? We end here, but we recommend that you stay ... Do you want them to be so naughty too?

... updated, because soon we will do some other lessons. This, surely! We also wrote it in the forum that we promised very lively, very real lessons, and so we have to keep our promises. M. Eh, vous avez raison aussi. S. Va bene. As long as this lesson does not turn out to be a crazy flop, which we hope not ... Michele, io ti saluto per questa sera. Michele, ich grüße dich für heute Abend. Come on, they'll definitely give us a hand! Do you want them to be so naughty?

M. Benissimo! Ciao, a presto! Well, I've known them for a little bit more time than you, so there's someone who's mischievous. S. Ciao, ciao! That's true, but it's ... they would not be students if they were not naughty!
