Conversazioni fra Sabina e Michele, I dialetti (Prima parte)

I dialetti (Prima parte)

Michele: Ciao, Sabina!

Sabina: Ciao, Michele!

Come va oggi?

M. Bene, e tu?

S. Bello, come argomento! Molto vario.

M. Sì, come succede dappertutto.

S. Poi, a volte, io mi chiedo come mai vengono fuori certi… certi termini.

Michele: Ciao, Sabina! Michele: Hi, Sabina! Michele: Oi, Sabina!

Sabina: Ciao, Michele! Sabina: Hi, Michele!

Come va oggi? How's it going today?

M. Bene, e tu? Well and you? S. Bene, dài. Good. Today was quite a nice day, with the sun, a little bit of sun, so ...

Yes, it's still hot, then. Yes, it's still warm enough, to be November already tomorrow. Today we speak of dialects and in particular of our Venetian dialect, or should we say "of our Venetian dialects", given that each country has its own?

S. Bello, come argomento! S. Bello, als Argument! Beautiful, as an argument! S. Bello, comme argument ! S. Bello, som argument! Molto vario. Very varied. Veldig variert. Also because, actually, every country has its own different nuances ... euh ... for every dialect.

Yes, there is always some word that changes. For example, in my province, Polesine, there are several linguistic areas, dialectal, and in fact sometimes, especially with my grandfather, we see vocabularies or literary texts, poems in dialect that are passed by Polesani, but it is a different Polesine from our Polesano di Rovigo, there are many words that - he tells me - have never been used and therefore in Italy but even more, perhaps, in Veneto the dialect has a great variety and also, by us, has a greater importance to what it has in many other regions.

But, I'll tell you, even here in my area the dialect has nuances based on the geographical position of the country. Let's say that, respect ... I live in Vicenza, so compared to what is spoken in Vicenza, Vicenza city-center, moving a little 'more towards Verona we already find words that are mixed between Vicenza and Verona. Or, moving a little further north, towards the ... the first mountains, so, we already have a changing dialect.

M. Sì, come succede dappertutto. Lehrer: Ja, wie überall. M. Yes, as happens everywhere. Even here in my province, which is just halfway between Venice and Bologna, between Veneto and Emilia-Romagna, there are certain areas - above all, well, Rovigo and Basso Polesine, that is the one towards the sea, towards the mouth of the Po - where we still speak a Venetian "Venetian"; but then, the more you go to the south, towards Ferrara and the Po, the more the dialects are bastardized, until you get right on the bank of the Po, and there they speak almost in Ferrara, which is a dialect that, personally, I can not stand.

Why do not you bear it? Because it has this cadence that I find a bit 'vulgar under certain points of view, and then it will be that a little' always tends to be in conflict with the neighbors and ... I do not know, we were also - I think - under Ferrara, under the Estensi for a certain period, then perhaps a little 'rebellion against the invader, I do not know ... but I feel that when I speak - even when I speak in dialect, and also in Italian, there is still the contamination of the south Ferrara and I do not have a nice Venetian, let's say, pure, as they have in Padua, Treviso, Venice of course. That, however, even there, we have a lot of nuances ... I think, I would say nice, because even in Treviso have terms for ... for ... to say certain things that are really to laugh about. M. Ad esempio? For example? For example ... for example ... the trevisani, when they have to call a boy, they call him ... they call him "mule", like the Triestians! M. Oh yes? Non sapevo. I did not know. Jeg visste ikke.

S. Davvero! S. Really! S. Virkelig! M. Yes. S. So much so that the first time I heard it ... I almost ... yes, I was surprised, because I say "But how? So much so that the first time I heard it ... I almost ... yes, I was amazed, because I say "But how? Non ho capito! Do you call a child a mule? Non è mica un somaro!” It's not a donkey! "

M. Ahahah! It's not a donkey! S. And, instead, it was an affective form of calling one's children. And instead, it was an affective form of calling their children. Or, when they say "small", they use the word "ceo", or "cea" if it's a girl.

Eh ... they are really words ... that, if you are not used to hearing, they give you some ... well, they leave you a little, um, amazed. In fact, even in Trieste, which despite being detached from the Veneto and does not have a history in common with Veneto, they speak this dialect very similar to Veneto ...

In fact, even in Trieste, which despite being detached from the Veneto and does not have a history in common with the Veneto, speak this dialect very similar to the Veneto ... M. ... have this peculiarity of the word "mule", which I think is the most widely known Trieste word outside Trieste, precisely because it is a false friend, we say, and you must be there; later, once one is there he understands, but it can cause misunderstandings and certain ... ... they have this particularity of the word "mule", which I think is the most well-known word in Trieste outside Trieste, precisely because it is a false friend, let's say, and you must be there; afterwards, once one is there he understands, but he can cause misunderstandings and certain ... At the beginning certainly; then, when you get used to it, when you get used ... um ... you ... listen to these people many times, when you understand, in short, the misunderstandings are diminishing, they dissolve. Men i begynnelsen, ja, de er ting litt ... litt rart, litt merkelig.

M. Sì. S. Poi, a volte, io mi chiedo come mai vengono fuori certi… certi termini. But at the beginning, yes, things are a bit '... a bit' strange, a little 'special. M. Oui S. Alors, parfois, je me demande pourquoi certains… certains termes sortent. M. Ja. Who knows where they come from, who knows who invented them! Then, sometimes, I wonder why certain ... certain terms come out.

M. Yes. S. However I have noticed that lately the dialects are disappearing more and more. Eh, so, it is part of our being Venetian.

M. Yes. Here too the younger generations often speak Italian and have this pronunciation, even without an accent, which you say "Are you here?". However, I have noticed that lately the dialects are increasingly disappearing. Even the boys ... even the boys do not use it anymore because, rightly, at school they learn Italian, and it is right that it is so, and when you hear them speak in dialect, they laugh because they put an accent Italianized that you do not You know more if ... that stuff is, eheh! I read some time ago that 75% of the Venetians understand or at least ... or speak dialect, I don't remember, but it is still a very high percentage if you think of ... other dialects like Milanese or Piedmontese, which are in via of extinction.

Even here younger generations often speak Italian and have this pronunciation, also, without accent, that you say "But are you here?". You do not even feel the origin anymore, as if they were purposely to remove you ... any Venetian accent. However, the Veneto is still the region - or one of the few regions - where everyone still understands the dialect and is able ... most of them are also able to have a conversation on a certain level. Litt "Italiacano", eheheh. Um pouco de "Italiacano", eheheh.

(continua) I had read, some time ago, that 75% of the Veneto people understand or at least ... or speak dialect, I do not remember, but it is still a very high percentage if you think about ... other dialects like Milanese or Piedmontese, who are on of extinction.
