I'm so frustrated

I keep getting this notice: There was an error opening this lesson. We have been notified and will investigate this issue. You will be redirected to the home page where you can try opening another lesson.

I’m trying to read a chapter which was divided by Lingq into many parts (I’m not sure this matters, but I’m mentioning it in case it does.) Often, when I attempt to load the next lesson, I get the very frustrating message above, meaning that I have to go back to the source, find exactly which part of the chapter is now inaccessible to me and reconstruct the lesson so I can continue reading. Is there no way that this can be fixed?! Please!

Is that your imported lesson? Can you please post a link to that course? I’ll look into it.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. How do I post a link to that course? The course is La Storia, the chater is 1947, 6, part four. It’s at least the third time this has happened to me this week with different files.

Just open a course and copy-paste the course URL here, please.

Url when I open the course “La Storia” is Login - LingQ

This maddening thing has happened again to me this morning! I can’t open the last part (10) of the file 1947 chapter 6 amd have to find the material in the original source and reload it into Lingq. This is so time consuming! Please help and explain how to avoid this problem.

The reason why these specific lessons can’t open is that they are empty. There is no text in them and that is why they can’t load and you see that error message.
I am trying to figure out if there is actually text missing, or does text ends with Part 9, and empty Part 10 was added by error.

Can you please send me a file you imported this course from to support(at)lingq.com? Thanks!

Zoran, I can’t send you the file I imported from because it’s part of a book that’s not divided into recognizable chapters and once I have imported it, from text I selected from the book, it just becomes part of the book again. But I can say that this has happened to me again this morning with “Arturo, Part 2 (3)” which was a file created by lingq when it broke up text that was more than 4,000 words. So the file wasn’t even created by me really, but by you all. If it’s empty, that means there’s something wrong in the importing process. Meanwhile it’s VERY time consuming for me to go back to the text and hunt out what might be missing so I can continue reading. Please help find a solution so this doesn’t keep happening.

Thanks @cheska99, we will have it fixed soon.

Hi Zoran,

Just to report that this sometimes happens to me too when I import a large text that is split automatically by Lingq - it often creates some empty lessons that then cause this error. This was Swedish in case that is important to know.

Here is an example: Login - LingQ

This has started happening for me a lot as well. Just to clarify, the lessons that are corrupted like this are loosing text not just adding empty lessons. Meaning the the next lesson after the corrupted one will continue @2000 worlds later in the book.

@t_harangi We are looking into it and try to fix the problem, but we can’t reproduce the issue on our end and that slows our down.
Can you please email me an URL of the course you have a problem with and text you imported? Thanks!

@seanos49 From where you imported a text for this course? Can you please send it to me - support(at)lingq.com
Thanks!

Hi Zoran, I sent you the info you requested. ALSO, I did an experiment re-importing the same text into a new course, and it seems the same lessons get corrupted in the new course as well. So if I import a book and lesson 3 will be corrupted, then I re-import it into a new course, lesson 3 will be once again corrupted in the new course.

Zoran, would it help if one of us sends you the whole text we’re having trouble with and you load it and see if it breaks down correctly or not?

I did already got a few examples from other users and forwarded to our developers. Hopefully they will be able to figure it out.

Just thought I should add that I recently stopped reading novels on lingq for this reason. I think it’s been a problem for almost a month.

Has there been any progress on this issue? I find that the only way I can read a complete book at this point is to upload one lesson of 4000 words or less at a time. Would love to find out that the old way is working again!

One thing that has worked for me to get around this is issue – at least for now – is to use the “Import Ebook” shortcut function. I usually don’t use this because it brings in all the front matter etc. but when the copy and paste method gave me the same issues, Import Ebook brought in the text intact.

You may need to experiment with different files, bringing in e-pub vs. .txt file via this route and so on, but give it a shot and see if it works.

Has anyone managed to fix this yet? I can’t open any lessons when using the app including material which is already in the LingQ library. The only way I have found to get around this problem is to use the web version of LingQ which works like normal. I sent the support team an email about this a week ago and still haven"t gotten a reply. This is a real shame because I used to love using the app on my Ipad!
