No Sound on 2 Android Phones

I have recently installed LingQ on three devices:

  • OnePlus 6 running Android 9
  • Xiaomi 8 Lite running an Android type called MIUI 10.3.3
  • Macbook Pro, OSX High Sierra 10.13.6

The Macbook Pro’s fine, but the two Android phones cannot play sound in any situation or for any reason. Vocabulary, text-to-speech, everything. I’ve seen numerous threads about sound being an issue with the app over the months and years.

Any ideas for help? I’ve got Google text-to-speech, of course, but is there something I’m missing? Or is this still an issue after all this time?

For which study languages TTS doesn’t work on Android devices in your case? I am using Android app too and TTS works fine on my end. Let me know and I’ll investigate that further.

Oh, snap! Can’t believe I forgot to put that hahaha I’m studying Mandarin Chinese (Simplified, if that matters)

I get the “Text to Speech has failed!” message at the bottom of the screen every time I open the app. I have Google TTS installed on both phones, and I’m not sure what to do

Strange, Chinese TTS works perfectly fine on my device.
So just to confirm, TTS doesn’t work for Chinese on both your devices? Do you have Google TTS set as default on both devices?
If answer on both questions is yet, please try to reinstall the app, delete apps cache and data under the settings on your device. Then login back into your account and check if that helped.
You can also try with re-installing Google TTS and set it as default again.

Ah, I didn’t have TTS set as default! Got it working - thanks a lot!
