Latin Text To Speech for Android
Obvious, but truly ignorant question: How does anyone know what Latin is supposed to sound like?
Although it likely isn't a perfect replica, standard Classical pronunciation does exist. Ecclesiastical pronunciation also exists. Just imagine listening to an American robot read French aloud with English pronunciation. Even if you didn't know what the correct pronunciation was, you would know that you were listening to an abomination.
lol. I'm sure I could know what bad Latin sounds like, even if I don't know what the right one is.
As someone who would be interesting in learning it someday, I would be curious to know if you have a good place to point me with regard to the Classical and Ecclesiastical variants. I always wondered if people (ie priests) were just doing it like it sounded in English. thanks
You can have a look on this youtube channel. One of this favorite topic is the pronunciation of latin.
PS: sorry for my bad english
Thank you. No worries by the way, English was totally readable.
Exactly as you have noticed, Google TTS app doesn't have Latin available as option at the moment. LingQ app will use any TTS which is set as default under your phone settings. Unfortunately I am not familiar with any app that has Latin available, but if someone do know any, they will hopefully help you.
