Alternative media in all languages
Chaoskind 4167 13013 7909
Hey guys, I am looking for some new sources to import from. I am looking for magazines, newspapers or blogs, preferably not any mainstream-media. The languages I am currently looking for are Spanish, French, Dutch and Portuguese, but any language will actually be appreciated.
I hope you guys can give me some suggestions on where I might go looking for interesting content and real news. Thanks already for any suggestions!

Before I started focusing exclusively on Italian, and was reading a fair amount of Spanish materials, I found www.publico.es to be a useful alternative news source. Left-leaning, very critical of Rajoy and company.

En français, mediapart.fr is a punchy, web-only news source that has had a few major scoops in the last year or so. To such an extent that it's almost turned into a new mainstream media outlet. I don't read it, but I have friends that swear by it.

Euronews is great, but it would be difficult to find anything more mainstream. :)

Thanks Ozzy, but I agree with gregf, this is a bit too mainstream :)

Taz.de is good and spunky. The newspaper of alternative Deutschland.

      compact-magazin, kenfm (youtube), hintergrund.de, nachdenkseiten.de, spiegelfechter.de .... There's so many out there. I really like netzfrauen.org and wissensmanufaktur.net too.

        From netzfrauen.org:

        "Über uns

        Wir sind Mütter und Großmütter.

        Wir sind Frauen und Ehefrauen.

        Wir haben vieles gemeinsam."

Hmm. Maybe I'll skip this one.

If you'd only look deep enough, you'd find something in common, I am sure. Just don't give up!

    European or Brazilian Portuguese?

Most of what I listen to is Brazilian, but I think I'm far enough along to go either way without getting confused...

There´s this blog, for example: http://www.bitaites.org/
The author has recently written 2 very critical articles about the newly approved law on private copies, which will make tablets and other storage devices more expensive.

Jornal do Fundão, a regional newspaper, take a look at the editorials: http://www.jornaldofundao.pt/index.asp?idedicao...

Does anyone have any recommendations for Italian? I generally read La Repubblica (and Espresso), but I tend to find it rather boring. I recently discovered www.internazionale.it, but it doesn't have a lot of online content.

Does anyone have any good links for Beginner-ish Swedish. I already know about 8-sidor, an I'm planning to work through the massive course of articles on the site soon, but i'd love it if anyone could suggest any other beginner like content, ideally with translation, in Swedish. Thanks :)

      Try googling FSI Swedish.

Thanks for the reply Elric. I was already aware of the FSI courses, but I was a little weary of the audio because it contains some english as well. Of course, if someone could suggest a way to remove this (I'm not very tech-savy haha) then I would be very grateful. Thanks :)

FSI courses are very well structured. You could do a lot worse than go through a handful of the lessons and then start with the beginner lessons here.
