Why is mismo used in this frase. Would it not mean the same thing, if mismo wasn´t there?

Ahora mismo means right now, at this moment. Depending on context I suppose it could mean I am working right now, as in I am in the middle of a shift. But in the lesson the person says he is a lawyer but he works at a restaurant. I think the mismo in this context implies that he wants to work as a lawyer but he has not found a job within this field so right now he works at a restaurant.

If I was to take a stab at it I would say that without mismo it would imply that he studied law but did not like it and now he works at a restaurant because he has discovered that food is his passion.

Yeah. Right now I’m working as a cook in a restaurant.
