I am translating a song, and have difficulty with four words in this line: И те лишь, кто хмеля войны сильней, быть может вернутся домой. The four words are кто хмеля войны сильней. They seem literally to mean ‘who is (are) stronger than the intoxication of war.’ Am I anywhere close? I can provide more of the lyrics if need be. This is a song about a sea battle, and the singer is rallying a group of fighters who are completely encircled on the sea by their enemy, and need to fight their way out if they are ever to return home. I am not entirely sure myself. In this kind of context I’d expect хмель to mean something that clouds one’s judgement. Maybe they wanted to say “the ones who stay calm, cool and collected will make it through” or maybe it’s just a poorly written line.
