I came across this phrase in an Archive story of Deutsche Welle Alltagsdeutsch…“Seinen Namen „Sächsische Schweiz“ soll es zwei Schweizer Künstlern verdanken.” The translation appears to suggest that it means “It is said that it owes its name “Saxon Switzerland” to two Swiss artists” but I cannot understand how this translation was arrived at. The best that I could do with it is ““Saxon Swiss” ought to owe its name to two Swiss artists”…and I know this is not right. Der Name Sächsische Schweiz entstand im 18. Jahrhundert. Die beiden Schweizer Künstler Adrian Zingg und Anton Graff waren 1766 an die Dresdner Kunstakademie berufen worden.
