Semantic rules

I am studying semantics rules but l don’t really understand them :
Rule 1 talks about the meaning of [ S NP VP ]
Rule 2 talks about the meaning of [ VP V NP]
I need more explanation please …thanks

My experience has been that if I look at grammatical rules and don’t understand them, I am usually not ready for them  Just keep reading and listening and with more exposure you will automatically learn more rules. What you are looking at, things like noun phrases, verb phrases and so on is really complicated for one thing and also not really necessary to understand for comprehension. Maybe this wasn’t the answer you were looking for but there you go

Thank you …l share with you the same opinion that grammar is complicated . Instead , I focus on listening and reading to improve myself in English ,but l have to learn about semantics for college ; I have a test about them tomorrow.

This is a good page which sums up the basic rules for phrases in a not-so-complicated way: The Phrase | Grammar Bytes! It has a lot of good examples that show how different phrases are built, which I think is the fundamental thing to understand about this.

thanks alot
