Well, I’d say first of all that I prefer material that isn’t so interesting to me that I need to understand what everything means. If I see something I really can’t understand, I want to be able to ignore it and keep moving.
I use a lot of imports. (Of course there’s no audio then.) An easy thing is to go to Wikipedia to some page on a topic that interests me, and see on the left bar whether there is a Chinese version. I’ve been reading about the Alien(s) movies and picking up a decent idea of some scifi terminology. Or you can figure out the Chinese translation of some term and google it and see if anything interesting comes up, like a blog.
One thing I’ve loaded is Chinese language board game comments on boardgamegeek. I definitely don’t always understand these comments, but I do get to learn the basic terminology.
I haven’t thoroughly explored what’s already available on LingQ. I’ve read good chunks of these though:
