It’s tricky here because he interrupts his thought and backs up:

So most likely he said 对 but then decided he wanted to have 假如 in there, always intending to say 对小说 at some point.
so the first 对 was a mistake? so the second part of the sentence will translate to:
suppose to the novels im interested?
He started to say “Because I’m interested in novels” but had to stop and back up slightly once he decided to say “Suppose I’m interested in novels.” You use 对 for things you’re interested “in” yes.
