Does ba fourth tone also mean 'got', trying to translate: 他 可能 把 你 的 电子邮件 地址 弄 丢 了

Does ba fourth tone also mean ‘got’, trying to translate:
他 可能 把 你 的 电子邮件 地址 弄 丢 了

This is a very common construction in Chinese. Rather than saying that he lost your email address, the Chinese say he took your email address and lost it. I believe 把 is third tone.

她把那个人看着朋友
she looked upon him as a friend /she took him and looked upon him as a friend

他把他的房子卖掉了
he sold his house / he took his house and sold it off

how do you know when to use ba and when not to use it?

把 is a particle that marks the following noun as a direct object.

By the way, I think Steve made a typo above. It should be 看作 (to look upon; to regard as), not 看着 (looking at).

“ba” is third tone

Right ok, thanks
