What type of situation do you use this phrase? Are there other phrases used to ask someone to wait?

Saying 稍等 is like saying wait a little bit, or wait a moment. You can also say 等待 and 等一等. All can be used when asking someone to wait.

Any situation, really, but it’s more often used somewhat formally by service people to ask customers to wait a moment. 请稍等一下,you’ll hear them say. 请稍候 is another formal expression I see most often written. I’ve never heard 等待 used alone to ask someone to wait, but it can be said as 敬请等待 which is super formal sounding…

等一下,等一等,等一会儿, 等等 are all common colloquial possibilities and all serve the same purpose. I say 等一下 most often, but it’s personal preference.

谢谢!

谢谢! Wow, this is very informative. I’ll add those to my vocab cards.
