I was wondering whether it is be possible to take phrases from books that I am reading at the moment, and insert them as Lingqed phrases? If so, any advise.

Yes, you can add vocabulary items individually or in lists.Go to Vocabulary page and click on “Import Vocabulary”

I import a lot of private lessons, and then create LingQs from the text just as if it was one of the published lessons here.
