Does this mean that everyone has to make known, has to think about or just what. I am having a little trouble getting the gist of this. Thanks.
sich über etwas Gedanken machen = to give thought about something
bewusst = conscious / consciously
So here it could be translated like:
…that everyone gives a conscious thought …

This is another one of those German expressions that are best to not literally translate. In English, one would rarely say “to consciously think” about something; the German expression is used to imply that everyone should deliberately think about or think through a particular matter or issue, in contrast to passively accepting the status quo.
