Read content you're familiar with

What do you think about reading books you’ve already read before in your first language? For example, if you have already read “Harry Potter” in your first language, would it be a good thing to read it in, le’ts say, its Japanese translation (if you are learning Japanese)?
Do you thing it this good or deleterious in respect to language learning?

As it makes understanding the text much easier (even if sometimes the translator does odd things to little story lines or names - I suppose that is a question of what makes sense in the target language), many of us have done exactly that. For example, I have a particular book by Camus in 6 foreign languages and a few more of his in one or two other languages. Wonderful practice. Good thought :))
