I have encountered an issue with my payments where I actually have lost my money. I paid 1420 JPY for a monthly subscription, but upon reviewing my Mastercard bills, I noticed that I was charged twice. One bill indicates that I paid 1420JPY to an account named LINGQ LANGUAGES +16049259544 CAN, while the other bill shows that I paid 1400JPY to an account named GOOGLE*LingQ 650-253-0000 GBR. My most recent payment was on February 23rd, 2023, and the subscription is set to expire on March 23rd, 2023. I think a useful option though would be on the subscription page there is a section to gift premium, basically you can buy them a 1-month gift card.
This would properly be a better option for you to do that.

Please note that 6, 12, and 24-month memberships are all charged the full amount at once. That is the reason why they are cheaper on average per month compared to a monthly membership. In case you want to be charged each month separately, you should take the monthly subscription instead.

Actually, I was not asking for my auto-renewal to be cancelled as I think (so far) that Lingq is amazing. I have never been so motivated to read materials in my language as I am now. This is due to seeing the cumulative total of words that I know. It is a great motivator. As far as being able to cancel a sub... the Settings > Account > Change Plan gives the option to "Downgrade to Free". I guess this is the way to cancel.

Hi Zoran, if there is no way to cancel on your website you are in breach of EU laws. I would suggest you add a way to cancel without having come to the forum and ask. By EU law there is also a grace period of 14 days in which a contract must be cancellable. I suspect the fact it does not highlight the auto-renewal during sign-up is also in breach of EU law.

Hi @zoran can you please confirm if my subscription was downgraded to free or otherwise cancel the auto-renew? I clicked on delete all my data, but nothing happened after that.
Unfortunately, I don’t think that LingQ is ready for Japanese yet, for the asked price (it works very well for the couple of European languages I’ve tried). For the price of the subscription against other free alternatives, I would expect ready-to-read imports, but it doesn’t support books with furigana (duplicates the text), sometimes separates the dakuten from the character, or adds random additional spaces. It is too much prep-work before reading, almost the same of the other free services. Also the auto—furigana is still bad, and the randomly adding of spaces doesn’t help with that either.
All that being said, hope to get back once the support for Japanese is improved!

So, my issue is this: I got a one year plan offer via my android phone. I agreed and my bank account got charged today. However, my one month plan doesn't expire until OCT. 23. There is an overlap in plans. (I cancelled the one month plan using Google Play Store. Also, Google Play Store says "confirm plan" on the one year subscription). Is there a way to start the date of the newer one year play for OCT.23?

Additionally there is no option whatsoever to cancel a subscription under the change plan page. I checked many times (using different browsers) thinking it was a bug but even if we choose to believe it is a bug it hasn't been fixed in over a year.
Please, respectfully, make sure it is properly canceled (not "invalid date", I don't want to see it charge me again next month) and refund me in full for all the months not just the latest payment.

It is canceled properly, no worries. You won't be charged again. I refunded your last payment and that's the best I can do, I can't refund all the previous months since your account was Premium the whole time and you had unlimited access to it.

As you can clearly see I'm sure I never used lingq at all after the first week. All I ever did with it is try to cancel it and the claimed cancel button does not work for me or any of the dozens (hundreds?) of users who are forced to google to find this forum thread and beg for you to do it manually, which obviously should not be necessary.

This pattern can be found on many of subscription-based services that offer a free trial. When users sign up for a free trial, they are asked to enter their credit card details. When the trial ends, users start automatically getting charged if they don’t remember to opt out. In many cases, users aren’t even given an easy way to cancel the subscription—they have to call the office or even send a request using regular mail to get their subscription cancelled.

This leaves a bad taste and makes you look scam-y. If you do not refund me in full I will have to contact my credit card company, and your payment provider as a start. Additionally I'll make sure people will know how you operate.
I'm afraid saying no worries is not an acceptable answer in this case.

To me it actually isn't a silly question at all, given my experience trying to cancel my membership/downgrade to free. So if a staff member is reading this, I would also like to get help with cancelling my membership as the way I understood it was that my membership was to be cancelled on Feb 20, then I checked it and it said March 20, so I assumed I had gotten the month wrong and just waited until next month. To my surprise, I received another invoice yesterday to my mailbox and in the settings it moved the cancellation date further to April (which at this point is certainly no April Fool's joke). Please help me cancel my membership as I simply can't figure it out even after trying multiple times. I thought I would just wait it out, but it keeps extending the premium. Thank you.

On LingQ 4 I seriously considered a Premium subscription to take me to the next level, I loved the translations, being able to see what the dialogue is about etc. In LingQ 5 one is now forced to pay for translations which were standard on LingQ 4. There seems to be a dramatic increase in cancellations, something LingQ should take very seriously as this is no doubt preventing new subscribers from signing up. I've decided to postpone my Premium subscription application for the time being.

You might want to point out to LingQ that the system MUST be improved!
It should be easier for members to cancel their membership - after all it's been more than 10 years and LingQ is STILL SUFFERING from exactly the same problems.
Also, tutors should be valued more!
Sending me an automated mail this morning at 6am reminding me that "It has been 24 hours and mikiego's conversation request is still waiting for me to respond" is really not acceptable. I accepted this request a week ago and corresponded with the student through lingQ prior to the conversation and during the conversation and ended up waiting 2 hours for the student yesterday.
Ideally LingQ should give the points to the tutor and return points to the student. Spuriously claiming the tutor didn't accept the conversation request in a mail sent this morning is rather revealing of LingQ's dubious way of handling tutors.
It's about time LingQ started valuing its members and its tutors.

It is now 11 years that members have been unable to cancel their membership without help.

Please note that 6, 12, and 24-month memberships are all charged the full amount at once. That is the reason why they are cheaper on average per month compared to a monthly membership. In case you want to be charged each month separately, you should take the monthly subscription instead.

Hi Zoran, as stated in a post in the forum some months ago I decided not to continue with my languages learning process through lingq. It was painful for me to import content and as I guessed it would be easier to find a better alternative (wich I did but will not advertise here to not being unpolite) in the market than going through a nightmare of a process here to be able to import the stuff I wanted. Just clicked to downgrade my account to free, hope it is sufficient with that. Just give you notice in case you have to do something.

That said, what happens to your payment if you subscribed and realized several after the payment was processed that you want to cancel? Does LingQ take the money once you immediately drop to FREE so for Steve or the Admin team its free money?? Or is it like other subscription services where the next payment you automatically dropped to the FREE version after the due date & it stops charging your card???
I totally understand what you're saying interms of the wrong messaging from a business stand-point. On the other hand there's no personalization to the membership either. Its not like Steve or his team would contact us if we cancelled expressing their heart-felt disappointment that we left the platform. Its as if they don't care if we embrace it or not or reach out to see how our language learning is going. None cares about how my french learning is going, they don't care if I become fluent & use it one day. At the end of the day its about money. "sigh" its the part about business I don't understand nor like.
Essentially it seems as though they don't care if we subscribe or not. Its ironic: LingQ is about language learning to communicate and yet there's no outgoing communication or even attempt to retain veteran users of the platform.

I also want my account downgraded to Free. I'd do it myself but it seems impossible to find how to delete imported lessons and besides it seems impossible to delete my card withoout having to get a new one.
I thought I had done it last time but to my surprise I got charged again.
As it looks like a nightmare to delete my card and downgrade for free please do it for me or delete my account (this option also seems to be unavailable).
