国民 の 祝日 「 敬老 の 日 」

9 月 19 日 は 、 国民 の 休日 の 1 つ 「 敬老 の 日 」 です 。 「 敬老 の 日 」 は 、「 長年 に わたり 社会 に つくして きた 、 お じいさん 、 おばあ さん を 敬愛 し 、 長寿 を 祝う 」 日 です 。 元々 9 月 15 日 でした が 、2003 年 から は 、9 月 第 3 月曜 と 定め られ 、 今年 は 9 月 19 日 に なり ます 。 今回 は 、「 敬老 の 日 」 に ついて お 話し ましょう 。

「 敬老 の 日 」 の 由来 は 諸説 あり ます が 、 その 1 つ と して 、「 聖徳太子 説 」 が あり ます 。 聖徳太子 が 大阪 に 四天王寺 を 建てた 時 、 この お 寺 に あわせて 、 敬 田 院 ( きょう で ん いん )・ 悲田院 ( ひでん いん )・ 施 薬 院 ( せ やくいん )・ 療 病院 ( りょう びょういん ) と いう 4 つ の 建物 を 設置 した と いわ れて い ます 。 その うち の 1 つ 、 悲田院 は 、 身より の ない 老人 や 、 病人 を 収容 する 救護 施設 と して 設立 した と 伝え られて いる んです 。 この 悲田院 が できた の が 9 月 15 日 であった ため 、 この 日 が 選ば れた と いう こと な んです ね 。 現在 の 敬老 の 日 は 、1954 年 に 設け られた の が 始まり です 。 その後 、1966 年 に 現在 の 「 敬老 の 日 」 と 制定 さ れ 、 国民 の 祝日 と なった んです よ 。

「 敬老 の 日 」 は 、 地域 の 高齢 者 を 、 いたわり 励ます 行事 や 、 周囲 の 人 たち の 「 敬老 」 に 感謝 する 行事 が 全国 的に 行わ れ 、 家庭 でも お 父さん 、 お 母さん 、 お じいちゃん 、 おばあ ちゃん の 長寿 を お 祝い して い ます 。 現在 、 日本 は 「 高齢 化 社会 」 と 呼ば れ 、 年々 高齢 者 は 増加 して い ます 。 2004 年 に は 、100 歳 以上 の ご 長寿 は 2万 人 を 超えて いる こと が わかり ました 。 そんな 長寿 大国 の 日本 で は 、 どの ご 長寿 に 聞いて も 、「 よい 環境 で 生活 を し 、 適度な 運動 、 適切な 食べ物 を 摂る こと が 、「 長寿 の 秘訣 だ 」 と 答えて い ます 。 特に 長生き する に は 、「 食事 」 が 一 番 大切な ので は ない でしょう か ? 昔 、 日本 人 の 食卓 は 、 セリ ・ ナズナ など の 山菜 や 、 鯉 ・ ドジョウ など の 川 魚 、 イナゴ ・ ゲンゴロウ など の 昆虫 類 など 、 たくさんの 野山 の 幸 で あふれて い ました 。 だからこそ 、 お じいちゃん 、 おばあ ちゃん は 、 今 でも 元気に 暮らして いる んです ね 。 ここ で 、 簡単に できる 「 ご 長寿 料理 」 の ヒント を ご 紹介 し ましょう 。 大根 や 野沢 菜 など の 野菜 を 軒先 に カラ カラ に なる まで 吊るし ます 。 これ は 、 野菜 の 栄養 を 逃がさ ず 、 摂取 できる 方法 の 1 つ です 。 干した もの を 漬物 に したり 、 味噌汁 の 具 など に して 食べる の が 長生き の 秘訣 な んです よ 。 自然の 恵み を 受け 、 暴飲暴食 する こと の ない ように 食 生活 を 見直す いい 機会 かも しれ ませ ん 。

お じいさん 、 おばあ さん に 感謝 し ながら 一緒に 食卓 を 囲み 、 健康に いい 食事 を して みる の も いい かも しれ ませ ん ね 。 今回 は 「 敬老 の 日 」 に ついて お 話し ました 。
