24 Fourth Labour: The Erymanthian Boar (primer)
Tum vero Hercules iussus est capere quendam aprum
Then indeed Hercules was ordered to capture a certain boar
qui vastabat Erymanthios agros illo tempore,
which was ravaging the Erymanthian lands at that time,
et magnopere terrebat incolas huius regionis.
and greatly was terrifying the inhabitants of this region.
Hercules suscepit rem et profectus est in Arcadiam.
Hercules took up the task and set out into Arcadia.
Postquam progressus est paulum in silvam, oc-currit apro.
After he advanced a little into the wood, he met with the boar.
autem simul atque vidit Herculem, ille statim re-fugit ,
However as soon as it saw Hercules, it immediately fled ,
et per-territus timore pro-iecit se in altam fossam.
and terrified with fear threw itself into a deep ditch.
Hercules igitur iniecit laqueum quem at-tulerat,
Hercules therefore threw in a noose which he had brought,
et cum summa difficultate ex-traxit aprum e fossa.
and with the highest difficulty he dragged the boar out of the ditch.
ille quamquam re-pugnabat fortiter,
That < boar>, although it fought back strongly, nullo modo potuit liberare se;
in no way was able to free itself;
et re-latus est vivus ab Hercule ad Eurystheum.
and was carried back alive by Hercules to Eurytheus.
