13 Hercules and the Serpents (primer)
Iphicles, frater Herculis, exclamavit magna voce ;
Iphicles, the brother of Hercules, shouted in a big voice;
sed Hercules ipse, fortissimus puer, haudquaquam territus est.
but Hercules himself, a very brave boy, by no means was frightened.
parvis manibus, statim prehendit serpentes
with his little hands, immediately he seized the snakes
et compressit colla earum magna vi .
and squeezed the necks of them with great force .
Tali modo serpentes interfectae sunt a puero.
In such a way the snakes were killed by the boy.
Autem Alcmena, mater puerorum, audiverat clamorem,
Now Alcmena, mother of the boys, had heard the shouting,
et excitaverat suum maritum e somno.
and had aroused her husband from sleep.
ille incendit lumen et rapuit suum gladium ;
He lit a light and seized his sword;
tum properabat ad pueros,
Then he hastened to the boys;
sed ubi venit ad locum , vidit miram rem ,
but when he came to the place, he saw an amazing thing,
enim Hercules ridebat et monstrabat serpentes mortuas.
for Hercules was laughing and was showing the snakes dead.
