1.2 A Piece of Free-masonry (primer)

And in time the builder,
ἠδη τελευτῶν τὸν βίον ,
now finishing his life,
μετ-επέμψατο τοὺς παῖδας
sent for his sons
(ἦσαν γὰρ δύο αὐτῷ)
( for there were two to him)
καὶ ἔλεγε τοιάδε·
and he said these < things>: “Βουλόμενος μὲν, ὦ παῖδες,
" Wishing, O children,
τὸν βίοτον ὑμῖν γενέσθαι ἄφθονον,
the means of life for you to be plentiful,
αὐτὸς δὲ οὐκ ἔχων ὁπόθεν λίποιμί τι τοῖς παισὶν,
but myself not having [anything] from which I might leave something to my children,
ἡύρηκα ἁλις ὑμῖν ποθεν ἀλλοθέν ·''
I have found sufficient for you from somewhere from another place. " εἰπὼν δὲ ταῦτα, And having said these,
ἐξ-ηγήσατό τε τὰ περὶ τὴν ἐξαίρεσιν τοῦ λίθου
he described the < things> about the taking out of the stone και δι-ῆλθεν αὐτοῐς τὰ μέτρα αὐτοῦ,
and went through for them the dimensions of it,
λέγων ὅτι,
saying that:
“εἰ δια-φυλάσσοιντο ταῦτα ,
" if they were to follow faithfully these < things>, αὐτοὶ δὴ ἔσοιντο
themselves indeed they might be
ταμίαι τῶν χρημάτων τοῦ βασιλέως. " stewards of the treasures of the king. " ὁ μὲν δη οἰκοδόμος ἐτελεύτησε τὸν βίον· And so the builder completed his life.
